Patriots’ Vince Wilfork rips ex-teammate for calling wife ugly

New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfolk is listed at 6 feet 2 inches and 325 pounds. Ex-teammate Ted Johnson may want to think about that the next time he speaks ill about Wilfork’s wife.
Johnson apologized Friday after answering who he thought had the ugliest wife on the team on a radio broadcast.
“This is a big, big man and this guy had his way with the Texans this season,” Johnson replied. “He won’t hear this. Vince Wilfork.”
Wilfork then tweeted a response to Johnson’s comments, as reported by USA Today.
Every1 is entitled to their own opinion but it is [expletive] up when a x-teammate that I actually looked up to and enjoyed playing with takes shots at my wife for whatever reasons. I love my wife and my family. She is my everything. I don’t care when this was said no one should cross that line. The line has been crossed so it is what it is. All I wann say is [expletive] you! you don’t want to [expletive] with me or my family take shots at me all day but not them I have a great family life and blessed to have them.
Wilfork’s wife, Bianca, later posted her own message.
I just made a huge error in judgement and want to apologize to Vince and his wife for comments I made earlier today on a Houston radio show—
Ted Johnson (@TedJ52) March 22, 2013

I am surprised at all the negative emotion over a ' shock jock' baiting. The only thing wrong with Johnson's comment is he said it on the air. Privately, it's pretty funny because it's common locker room talk. It's razzing. ' Your wife is so ugly that....' has been going on forever. I can't believe that posters on a sports forum would waste their time to pass judgment on someone else's black humor. The greatest American humor has always been based upon sacrilege - topics that are taboo and not PC.

LikeAs my interest in sports waned a bit as I have aged, I have no prior knowledge of any of the three involved here but just looking at what was said have come to several conclusions. 1) Whoever the radio host was that started the whole thing should at the very least be given a stern lecture on proper questions to be asked and a few unpaid days off to think about it 2) Johnson is an idiot to be drawn in like that. A more proper answer would have been to tell his host that he did not answer insensitive questions. 3) With Wilfork's attitude toward his family and defending them, I would love to shake that man's hand and stress to him haw refreshing an 'old school' attitude like that is. 4) As I opened, never seen or heard of any of these people, but just basing it on her answer, Mrs. Willfork is one classy lady that has more beauty than the majority of the population. She has more class in her little finger nail than a whole city full of Johnsons or radio announcers.

LikeJohnson is a fool. You never make personal remarks about a teammate or co-worker, even if you are no longer on the same team. Its just low class. The question was low class too. Questions like that should not have been allowed on air. Don't these stupid radio stations screen these things?

LikeZero mention of the radio employee who ASKED such an insulting, degrading and cruel question. What is his name, his boss' name, and their Twitters, emails and phone numbers? The radio employee must explain what is even remotely appropriate about trapping an un-warned athlete into publically judging which former team member has the "ugliest wife." Instead of, you know, talking football or any subject less offensive. Of course Johnson should have refused to answer, then shamed the asker for even imagining such a hurtful question in a public forum.
Would radio guy have asked the same question had any football wives and their athlete husbands been in the same room? No way. Any question failing this test also fails the adult-behavior test and should never be broadcast. Did radio guy first run this insult past anyone at all, just to see if it might be received as heinously un-funny and genuinely hurtful? If so, and if those reviewers thought it would be hilarious, their names, Twitters and emails must be published as well. Was the broadcast aired live? If not, why was this not edited out before airplay?
Cruelty of this caliber is normally reserved for playgrounds. What hurts most of all is that this doesn't hurt just the private woman publically judged as "ugliest of all." Her children WILL read and hear their mother publically shamed, over and over, and forever, as that's how the Internet works; regrets can never be erased from this permanent digital archive. When other kids in their school hear of this, you can bet the Wilfork children will be mercilessly bullied because of it.
Would radio guy or Johnson think it funny if THEIR mothers were publically degraded this way? What child would not be outraged at such public ugliness aimed directly at the most cherished woman in their lives? Would they publically degrade a sensitive teenage daughter like this; by calling her the "ugliest of all" like a slab of meat with no value? Both of these "men" owe the Wilfork children an explanation and profound apology. Both must be educated on the very real hurt caused by callous men disrespecting innocent women this way.
When I saw the Wilfork family photo, I was struck at how beautiful, happy and loving they all appeared; a family so blessed and lucky to be together; to support and protect each other against REAL ugliness from the cold hearts of shallow men.

LikeFirst I musty say that until I read the article about Ted Johnson putting his foot in mouth when he joined a Houston area radio station and called Vince Wilfork's wife, Bianca, ugly. I had no idea who any of these people were. So I like a lot of other people looked it up. And what I found was a beautiful family a wife who loves her husband and children who does a lot of charity work.. A husband who also loves his family above all else. And I think this is a beautiful family. I imagine where ever they go there will be people who will always want what they share together. I am now a van of Vince and Bianca Wilfork. Bianca in my book you are a beautiful person inside and out.

LikeIs there any other site but profootballtalk.com that features otherwise unemployed writers who steal all their material from other sites? Of course, I could never post this comment there because it is the most heavily censored site on the internet. NBC is a dying network because it features such unimaginative material like that site to promote its fourth place - and sliding - agenda.

Absolutely no defense of Ted's comment here, BUT he is definitely NOT a 'career backup'. He WAS a KEY cog on the Pats' three SB winning teams (back when they HAD a fearsome defense that made Brady's efforts stand up for the big WIN) - a ferocious starting inside 'backer who absolutely STUFFED the run, ironically lining up right behind the big man, Wilfork, who tied up linemen so Ted could clean up. The two WERE good friends - as Vince said he 'used to look up to him'. Ted was a veteran stud holdover from the Parcells days when Wilfork joined the team as a rookie.
There's no question Ted was an @ss, and incredibly stupid, for saying this, but know what you're talking about before you post! For whatever reason, Ted thought that this comment in Houston wouldn't find its way back to Vince. Now he has a lot of 'splainin' to do, especially at future Pats alum affairs. This is a byproduct of the culture today - where 'shockjocks' dominate ratings with stupid subject matter, and otherwise respectable individuals are lulled into letting thoughtless comments slip. AND we have multiple 'anonymous' means of posting vicious and hurtful things, b/c we're not actually facing the people we're talking to.
Civility is getting lost in this online and media driven world of talking heads and anonymous comments, in a way that face-to-face interpersonal contact used to moderate. Hopefully society swings back eventually from its dependence on text messaging and tweeting as a form of 'communicating'!

Obviously you didn't catch the point of my post. As I made clear right at the start, I was NOT defending Ted J in ANY way, and was quite surprised by his comment in light of his past relationship with Vince.
BUT I was pointing out Yardpenalty's absolute ignorance regarding WHO Johnson was. He most definitely was not, "A career backup that's who!" In fact, he retired unexpectedly as a STARTER from a defending SB champion. I was providing some info on WHO Johnson was to someone who obviously lacked it.
I ALSO was commenting on the sad state of CIVILITY in current society, another part of my post that was obviously lost on you!
As for your reply, thank you so much for your definitive moralizing judgment. Do you feel better now? Perhaps you will once you dismount from your high horse.
My POST is perhaps AS irrelevant to you, as YOU are to me. I don't recall ANYONE on this thread (myself included) who claimed football was "important in the greater scheme." But we are ALL commenting on a SPORTS website, aren't we; why are you wasting your time on something so 'unimportant'.

With guys they know, actual friends, men have always traded light-hearted jokes about their manly-ugly in bars, locker rooms and even talk radio, such as: "Your face is SO ugly, the only dermatologist who'd take your case was a mail-order graduate of veterinary proctology."
It's all in fun, with even a bit of competition, when buddies trade barbs to see who delivers the wildest or most funny. It IS joking, it is NOT serious. Guys joke WITH guy FRIENDS about "ugly" and not behind their back in public. If they would never say it to someone's face, it is NOT a joke. They would NEVER had told this woman and mother to her face that she was the ugliest wife on the team. That's why this was NOT a joke.
Further, the difference in this case is they insulted a woman, not a man. They publicly insulted the mother of this man's children, when she was not in the same room to reply. They publicly insulted a man who was not in the room to defend his wife.
Had radio guy said, to Ted's face, that Ted was the ugliest former player of the team, THAT would have been a joke. Like you said, if football dude had answered "Tom Brady" THAT would have been a joke. Instead, they chose a real-life woman who is not a supermodel, but is a beautiful, sweet and loving woman, wife and mother. The joke was NOT misinterpreted by listeners; and you know damn good and well it wasn't.

If Terrell Owens had understood this, he never would have left the Eagles for answering (honestly and correctly, I believe) that Brett Favre was a better QB than Donovan McNabb. Was it true? Yes. Was it his place to confirm it? No. If more athletes would only take note. Hell, if more people in general would do so, the world would be better off.
