Rex Ryan: Mark Sanchez the starter for now, Tim Tebow in the mix

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says Mark Sanchez will be the starter come training camp, but the other quarterbacks on the roster will have a chance to compete for a spot.
Ryan said the team needs to get better at that position and that Sanchez’s spot as the starter is not guaranteed.
“The first snap, he’ll be the guy running out there first,” Ryan said of Sanchez, via ESPN.com.“But there’s going to be competition at that spot, there’s no question about it.”
The Jets brought in David Garrard, who hasn’t played since 2010, to compete with Sanchez. And there is always the question about backup Tim Tebow.
“He’s on the roster, and he’ll get a chance to compete,” Ryan said about Tebow. “We’ll see how the offseason plays out, but right now Tim is on our roster.”
Whether Tebow is on the roster in the next couple of months is certainly up for debate. Tebow’s name has swirled in trade rumors for the past two months and it was reported that the team tried to trade him during the scouting combine. The team could also release him.

Will take you here and we will show everyone how to use you..Just to piss off Rex Ryan

LikeI just hope whoever the quarterback turns out to be that he'll have a fair opportunity and all the support that he needs to run into someone else's butt face-first before the season is over.

LikeBoth of them together don't make an average NFL QB. Another long, humiliating season for Jests fans.

LikeRyan is such a fool. Sanchez is a lost cause and Tebow is no better. The Jets should have gotten rid of both of them as well as Ryan and started over.

Likerma1015601 thats an idiotic thing to say given how much cutting sanchez would have cost the jets this year. there are no viable replacements in FA and no clear candidates in the draft that are ready to step in this year... so keeping him is clearly the best move.

Likekory rma1015601 Yup, because he has guaranteed $ in his reworked contract, there is no $ savings probably to cut him. For 2012 he was #31 in QBR, #30 in completion %age, #3 in INTs. So, keep him as 2nd or 3rd option, but to name him the starter just shows how deluded Ryan is about him. Any other option couldn't be worse.
