Bears’ Devin Hester no longer a wide receiver
The team plans to start Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey as starters at wide receiver. Hester has 46 starts at wide receiver over the past five seasons. Last year, Hester caught just 26 passes for 246 yards.
Hester’s biggest impact in his seven-year NFL career has always been as a returner. Hester holds NFL records for the most combined special teams return touchdowns in a career and the most punt return touchdowns in a career and in a season.
“He’ll compete to be our returner,” Bears general manager Phil Emery said last month about Hester. “What he does beyond that depends on how he performs in that first role as a returner.”
