Broncos DE Elvis Dumervil had agreed to take a pay cut to remain with the Denver Broncos. However, Mike Klis has more recently reported that Dumervil’s contract was not filed with the NFL in time. Dumervil has officially been released.
Denver Broncos president John Elway said earlier this week that defensive end Elvis Dumervil‘s contract is “out of whack” and wanted him to take a pay cut.
That “out of whack” contract was supposedly taken care of. Dumervil agreed on Friday to take a pay cut to stay with the team next season, according to NFL.com.
Dumervil was scheduled to make $12 million and now will take in $8 million next season. The deal also includes a $3.5 million guarantee on the second day of league year in 2014.
“He’s a Bronco, bro. We gotta file the paperwork,” Dumeril’s agent Marty Magid told the Denver Post.
“It’s not all about dollars. But when it’s way out of whack? Then it’s so out of whack that you’ve got to say: That [salary] can’t be it,” Elway said Thursday, according to the Denver Post. “Especially when you look at the market and what’s out there now. It’s so far out of whack. Hopefully, he realizes that.”
But because Denver didn’t file Dumervil’s contract in time, the defensive end has been released.
Hold on, contract not filed in time. Elvis Dumervil has been officially released—

OOps, looks like this MRM Sports Agency better get their checkbook out.. Apart from Players departing because of this gaffe, I would think that Dumvrville has a solid lawsuit for 8 Million against this firm. Better get off the company checkbook Alan Gelb, you are going to need some capital and fast! Look at these guys, there pictures are all from 20 years ago, and they surround themselves with these young hottie blondes, so they feel important.. Man, I wouldn't walk away from these guys if I was represented by them, I would run.. run a 4.4 x 40 hopefully to Jerry Macguire..
Agent faxed the sign page back to the Broncos 6 minutes after the deadline. Agent blew it.
Broncos had to release him with one minute to go.
Dumervil should resign for the lesser amount tomorrow / Monday,
and then FIRE his idiot agent.
Has Manning won a playoff game with Denver? Oh yeah, he hasnt.
I think in the end Dumerville will still get the 8 million he was owed this year but Denver will have to be creative, and his base salary this year will likely now go down to 5 million, as they were trying to get this done so they also wouldn't have to pay 3 more million. Look this looks bad, it's horrible, but I think Dumerville will likely end up resigning although it being a messy process and stay
Sounds like the agent possibly had another offer or was trying to use the broncos offer to get more from another team. They came to an agreement at 1:25 MDT, and the agent didn't get the contract back to The Broncos 'til 2:06.
@DamionMosher That would be illegal in terms of the NFL. They would strip that agent of his license and the other team would get fined for tampering.
@BenTurner only if tampering can be proved. All the agent had to do was wait and get an offer sheet, then oops, did I fax that to late? Then the next team knows what Denver valued him at. They can now match it, because Denver would be right back were they were if they offer him the same deal now because of the 4 mill cap hit they took for releasing him, or they can negotiate within that 4 mill area to get him for a reduced price now that Denver can't offer him the same any more.
Not sure what to make of this, Elway has been doing some good things the last 18 months or so.. Seems like the ball got dropped on this though.
Elway is the one who now appears to be "out of whack".
@megalodale Really? This same guy who got Manning, & Welker is "out of whack"? Do you even watch football?
@LuckyCyrus7 @megalodale
ohh man hes so great he got Peyton Manning, who was a GAMBLE and may have had his last good season last year and ohh he got Welker to take a 2 million paycut, more so NE didnt value a 30 something WR the money that idiot is trying to throw at him. do YOU watch football?
so right jonathan, welker will be 32, on the down side, dropped a lot of catchable balls last 2 yrs, especially in the SB and the playoff game against the ravens, also his knee is questionable since he takes so many big hits, i like welker but i think amendola will be just fine with edellman
@LuckyCyrus7 Yes, I do. And he royally screwed the pooch on this one. But, I'm sure he appreciates your blind faith that he walks on water. Typical.
