The New England Patriots reached an agreement Wednesday on a deal with former St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola, ESPN.com reports.

The deal is for five years and is worth $31 million with $10 million guaranteed. Amendola is expected to replace Wes Welker, who signed with the Denver Broncos earlier in the day, at the slot receiver position.

He missed virtually all of the 2011 season after dislocating his left elbow in the opener, and then injuring a triceps muscle after returning to practice.

Amendola had 63 receptions for 666 yards and three touchdowns last season. In his four-year NFL career, Amendola has 196 catches for 1,726 yards and seven scores.

Disgusting... What a crap move by the Pats..... He is not as bad as people are making him out to be. Remember Welker was a nobody before he hooked up with the Pats and likely he will increase his production with them as long as he doesn't screw up run the wrong routes and get the Brady stare of death......

Slot, security blanket for qb, lets exclude your white comment but yes they are quite similar, why else would ne give him almost the same amount Welker got from den and 3 additional years to add, oh yeah he's 5 years younger. The only worry is the injury history, other than that potentially the exact player in their system.

Replacing Wes Welker with Danny Aendola is like replacing Roger Stuabach with Danny White.  Or replacing Troy Aikman with Tony Romo.  It is NOT like replacing #4 Vikings (sick of saying/hearing his name) with Aaron Rodgers.  That GB QB change was as good as it gets.  Welker out, Amendola in is a downgrade.  Nobody with any intelligence at all thinks otherwise.

The real story: The Pats thought they could lowball Wes Welker, lost out, and then overpaid for plan B,a 28-year old guy who has played 12 games the past 2 years. What could go wrong?

nathan l It's the Patriot way.  If your name isn't Brady then plan to be cut whenever you seek market value in your next contract.

And the evil empire strike again. I like the deal... He's a younger Welker and as long as he can stay healthy, the wheels keep churning, now about my Raiders...

     Papi Del Negro..... Dont ask

He may be a younger Welker but he doesn't stay on the field all that much. Every time I saw Rams, Amendola was out injured.

Papi Del Negro..... Dont ask No, He's not.  He's a white WR, and Welker is a white WR.  That is where the similarity ends.  If he's a younger Welker, oh, I got nothing.  He's NOT a younger Welker.

Papi Del Negro..... Dont ask About your Raiders, what?  They're looking at 3-13 in 2013.  Maybe they'll catch a few breaks and manage to go 5-11?  The only reason the Raiders are solvent is because the NFL will not let them fail.  (Revenue sharing).  The Raiders are an example of what NOT to do.  An absolute disaster of a franchise.

@John4 I meant my comment with sarcasm if you didn't catch it, I have to take Oakland situation with some humor or I will depress and anger myself like so many other fellow Raider fans
