Ravens safety Bernard Pollard: ‘My time in Baltimore is done’

NFL

Ravens safety Bernard Pollard tweeted Wednesday that he is finished in Baltimore.

Pollard, who started 13 games for Baltimore last season, will apparently be released by the team. The hard-hitting veteran safety helped set the tone for the Super Bowl champions. He played most of the season with six cracked ribs. He finished with 71 tackles and an interception.

Last May, Pollard agreed to a three-year contract extension to stay with the team long-term. Instead, coming off the Super Bowl win, he will be a free agent.

Pollard’s exit is the latest in a series of changes to the Ravens’ defense, long considered one of the league’s best. Ray Lewis retired after the Super Bowl. Linebacker Paul Kruger signed with the Browns. More surprisingly, fellow linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, expected by many to return, signed with the Dolphins. Veteran safety Ed Reed is also expected to leave.

Pollrad could and should be the "Enforcer" in the middle of the "D" the Patriots have needed since they last had Rodney Harrison. SIGN THE MAN!!!

Pollard is just another example of today's coddled, entitled athlete. He thinks just because he played most of the season with six cracked ribs and made pivotal plays in critical situations that he's entitled to the remaining two years on his contract. Disgusting!

@pcwhite2 Thanks. However, humility prevents me from being boastful or proud. My comment was a little like dunking while standing on a ladder. Kinda' hard to miss!

@Mr. J You do know that Flacco only costs 6.8 million against the cap this year. But yeah over the years he will cost more against the cap and I expect Ravens and Flacco to mutually re-work the deal the way Brady and Pats did this year.

Flacco earned the money - it's not his fault that management does a poor job of cap management. If Flacco takes less money so others can be signed, he is setting a bad presedence... Management can screw up the cap and players will take less money to cover for that. That's wrong.

As a Pats fan I say sign Pollard ASAP before he could inflict another key injury. Belichick bench him and keep him on the sidelines but get him in the team.

Sounds like Joe Flacco better start practice at linebacker and safety.
