Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick’s appearance at several book-signing events over the next week have been canceled because of threats of violence received by the organizers.

Philly Mag’s Tim McManus reported (via Pro Football Talk) that the publisher of Vick’s autobiography shut down planned appearances in Atlanta, New Jersey and Pennsylvania because of the threats. Vick had been set to sign copies of his book, “Michael Vick: Finally Free,” at three Barnes and Noble stores.

According to the report, the threats stem from reaction to Vick’s involvement in a dog-fighting ring, which have intensified since Vick acknowledged last fall he was once again a dog owner.

“While we stand by Michael Vick’s right to free speech and the retailers’ right to free commerce, we cannot knowingly put anyone in harm’s way, and therefore we must announce the cancellation of Mr. Vick’s book-signing appearances,” Byron Williamson, president of Worthy Publishing, told McManus. “We’ve been assured these threats of violence, which have been reported to the police, are being taken very seriously by local authorities.”

Vick family spokesman Chris Shigas told NBC Philadelphia that the decision to cancel was the decision of both Vick’s advisers and Worthy Publishing. He cited several “credible threats of violence,” including some that had been publicly posted on Vick’s Facebook fan page.

“This was a joint decision between Michael Vick’s advisers and the publisher,” Shigas said. “They were canceled because of a recent uptick in credible threats of violence against Michael Vick, his family, the bookstores and the book store employees.”

It was canceled for the wrong reasons (honestly I could care less what anyone does to harm him) but I am still glad it is canceled. Barnes and Nobles really should be more selective in choosing who to bring into their stores.. the fact that he has a book (doubt he can write..) called "finally free" makes me sick.. i am not even getting into the fact that he owns a dog again.. he should be unemployed right now and see how hard it is to find a job. many felons with much less dangerous crimes have a hard time finding work.. why does he have it so easy? (dog fighting is dangerous and it is a proven fact that anyone who harms animals is more likely to harm humans)

Granted Vick lost a lot as a result of his crime.  However, he is theone that decided to commit the crime and now he is going to try and profit it from it with a book.  Any other ex-con would not be given the same chances as Vick and may not have gotten out of jail as quickly either.  He had his second chance when the NFL reinstated him.

Vick HAS done his time, it's not like he's cheated the system. If you're going to bit.ch about how he's only paid some of his dues, blame the system, not Vick. I swear some of you people with an axe to grind will never be content. Not condoning his past actions, but clearly none of you believe in second chances.

@Goinglow17the "system" went easy on him because of his celebrity....he would still be rotting in a cell for his crimes if he wasn't an NFL player....

Let's all be honest here, it's because he's a black man.. A dog's life is more precious than a black person any day of the week. History proves it!! The man has done his time, let it go.

@Craig3qb you're ridiculous. stop making it about race, craig. its the most played out excuse ever. it would be the same if tom brady did this. paying for his crime and profiting from it are two separate things. the NFL obviously thought he could be reinstated, as he was. there is an issue with him profiting from his actions and expecting to be glorified for them. get a clue craig.

@RonnieKeithVanZant Your right, what was I thinking!! Imma get back in my place, Sir or Boss.. Which one is better?

@Craig3qb  @RonnieKeithVanZant when you are able to show me where he has apologized for his actions and has shown remorse for them, then your side of the argument may prove to be valid. until then, he has no right to profit off of his actions. like loki said, he is just a pr puppet a this point and does not care about what he did, and has even gone as far as continuing to talk about dog fighting, in a negative way, and bragged about the dogs he fought (youtube). we all choose what we decide to rally behind, and for us, its animal rights and the belief that no one should profit off of abuse. you have chosen what you rally behind, which is a stance against racism, which isnt even relevant to this topic. we're not telling you to choose something else to support are we? no. the only thing said about your race rants were to stay on topic and make it about his actions, not his skin color. not one person brought up anything about it besides you. as for the comment about him not inventing dog fighting, well not crap sherlock, but he sure as heck chose to participate in it. makes it no less of a crime and no less a case of direct and intended abuse and murder of innocent animals for his own entertainment. if anything, it makes him less of a man because he chose to show his balls by abusing animals. something you can stand behind and support craig?

@Craig3qb  @RonnieKeithVanZanthunters don't electrocute, drown, beat to death, etc... their prey...ideally, they shoot whatever they are hunting in a place that causes a quick and painless death...However, hunters are a bunch of f'ktards as well....fact is, Vick is simply doing what he's told by his PR people...he hasn't changed....he's still a low class POS who would still be running that gambling operation if he hadn't been caught.

@RonnieKeithVanZant Ok, so people hunt deer, slaughter cattle, hunt foxes and involve themselves in all types of cruelty to animals. Mike Vick didn't invent dogfighting, it's been going on for ages in the deep south. Am I saying what he did wasn't wrong,no. But the man had served jail time, speaks on behalf of PETA. People have murdered other humans and been treated better than this man. It's time to rally behind something else. Let this man go on with his life..

@Craig3qb  @RonnieKeithVanZant again, whatever you want to say to make yourself feel better, is totally up to you. you don't know me, i dont know you, but i do know one thing, this is about his actions, not his skin color. if you want to keep pushing the stereotype forward, thats your prerogative, not mine.

@RonnieKeithVanZant Do me a favor, ask the next ten black persons you encouter, does racism still exist. You have no idea until it happens to you. One prime example is the treatment and total disrespect our POTUS and FLOTUS have receive since being in office. If you have noticed that, either your blind or you might be the complete idiot.

@Craig3qbyou must be joking....the dogs were innocent and brutally murdered by Vick for his sick and twisted amusment. He has NOT done his time. First off, he got early release, which, y definition, means he didn't finish the time to which he was sentenced. Second, he only faced charges for bankrolling an illegal gambling operation but he hasn't yet been punished a day for the murder of those dogs...in addition to that, he can ALSO still be charged by Virginia since he only faced the federal charges....Vick is a low class POS

@Loki So how much time does he needs t serve before your satisfied?!? Life with the possibility of parole.. Get a freaking life!!

Loki
Loki

@Craig3qb  @LokiI think he should be put in a cage with some violent dogs and see what it's like to be forced to fight....and then, when we all find that he isn't good enough, we put him down via all of the various methods he used to murder dogs for his entertainment...

@CandyCotton you must be white. Racism is very much a factor in everything. Have you ever entered a store and had the store clerk stare follow you? No!! Blacks are a minority in this country, but the majority of the prison system. Would you be that enraged if it weren't dogs, but black kids? I doubt it. There are bigger issues in this country right now. Kids are dying in record numbers in Chicago, are you enraged about that. Race card!! Are you serious!!

@Craig3qb  @Loki *innocent dogs i meant.. your post had me so enraged i misspelled!  i honestly would not care if he did spend his life in prison, death penalty doesn't sound too bad neither.. all they did was prove that you can no only get away with harming dogs but you can profit from it.

@Craig3qb  @Loki  are you serious craig? he is so lucky to have gotten his job back.. he barely paid for anything he has done to those innocent cards. stop playing the race card, i am so sick of that.

There aren't any threats on Vick's page.  Most of us haters have been banned for years.  Anyone else that slips in gets deleted faster than a dropped pass. The only thing that self congratulating bunch of navel gazers want to hear is how bad their boy has been treated and how "we know you got de shaft man.  Stay strong.  It's yo line, they be letting you down".  Comments such as those retreat further in unintelligible gibberish that makes one wonder if even given a book what these, um "fans" would know what to do with it.  And no I am not be a racist.  Stupidity knows no color.

@NiafeeceWilliams   You'll have a long wait.  He's cancelled everything.  Whether done by B&N or that slither of trained snakes that handled Vick, he won't be signing any books soon.

Curious.  When a dog's life is on the line he's on the front lines.  If his life is on the lines, he hides.  Very interesting.

@JohnC2 It's not about what price you paid for your misdeed. It's what you are willing to do, and how that part of you will never change. No matter how many books you write, or apologies you make. If you are willing to physically harm another creature/being then you have never understood what it is to be truly alive, and will always be a threat to peaceful altruistic people. People with violent tendencies should always be separated from the general society.

 @SlamaLama  @JohnC2

Go back to the civil rights movement of the 60's and replace the dogs with black men. how many white men committed atrocities against black men and were allowed to remain in society and announce themselves as reformed racist. That's why racism will never die, the reformed racist were allowed to remain in society and have been able to influence the judicial and legal system of America and skew it against minorities.

Vick was wrong he admitted it did his time, how many racist whites were man enough to do this

Loki
Loki

@pumabolt  @SlamaLama  @JohnC2actually, the death of racism is just a matter of time if people will let it be....the old farts that have those beliefs need time to die off....but whiny little biiitches crying racism every time something negative happens to a non-white person only sets everything back...the accusation has to have merit or else you just mute your own argument.... It's like Nikki Minaj making accusations of racism about everyone who points out how horrible her music is....she even calls other black women racists for not liking her music....just because you aren't white does NOT mean that every bad thing that happens in your life is because of racism...I am white and yet bad $h!t still happens to me...is it racism? or does $h!t just happen, sometimes?
