[Update: 3:45 p.m. EST] Johnny Manziel went to Twitter to describe the Longhorn tattoo on his stomach as a “fake.” He also got into a Twitter war with several critics about the subject.
How will Johnny Manziel’s legendary status on the Texas A&M campus — at least during football activities, if not classes — withstand a shirtless spring break photo that’s gone viral?
The quarterback who became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy while leading the Aggies to an impressive SEC debut that included a road upset of No. 1 Alabama, may have some explaining to do. A photo depicts Johnny Football enjoying his spring break in Cabo San Lucas while wearing a Texas Longhorns tattoo revealed on his rib cage below his left pec.
If the photo and tattoo are legit, Manziel will likely catch some flak from Aggies who love to hate their intrastate rivals and former Big 12 partners. After all, the lyrics of Texas A&M’s fight song specifically mention the Longhorns:
Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Good-bye to Texas University
So long to the Orange and the White…
The eyes of Texas are upon you…
That is the song they sing so well
So good-bye to Texas University…
Manziel’s Texas A&M media guide bio makes mention of his former infatuation with the Longhorns, before he wound up playing quarterback in College Station:
Manziel, whom A&M coach Kevin Sumlin hasn’t yet made available for interviews this season, grew up a Texas Longhorns fan (he often sported UT gear around Tyler), but Texas didn’t heavily recruit him. In fact Florida coach Will Muschamp told his players during halftime of this year’s A&M game that UT, where Muschamp had previously served as defensive coordinator, only wanted Manziel as a defensive back.

Interesting. Well, not really, but it does bring to mind Reuben Flippy-Floppy Foster's forearm tat.

LikeWhy would Manziel have been sporting Longhorns gear around TYLER? The guy played at Kerrville TIVY High School. Unless there's been a major tectonic shift in the past 24 hours, those two place are about 340 miles apart... or about the same distance as it is from Chicago to Cleveland. Check your sources and facts, writers, please... and PROOFREAD!

LikeTexas1der You realize that Manziel was born in Tyler, lived there for several years, and the majority of his close family members live there currently, right? He comes from a family that has long been rooted in Tyler...so...yeah.
