Chargers cut TE Randy McMichael
The Chargers have cut veteran tight end Randy McMichael, according to ProFootballTalk. McMichael has played with the Chargers for the past three seasons. The decision did not come as a major surprise — McMichael had been phased out of the team’s passing game and salary considerations appeared to be a significant factor:
“Although McMichael’s $1 million base salary for 2013 was affordable, he was due a $250,000 roster bonus on the fifth day of the league year, and that was more than the Chargers wanted to give a player who will be 34 before the season starts.”
McMichael, 34, is a stronger blocking tight end. He had nine receptions for 51 yards last season while playing in all 16 games and starting in nine.
