The New York Jets signed veteran quarterback David Garrard on Monday in hopes of bolstering their backup corps behind starter Mark Sanchez, the team announced.

Garrard, 35, has not played since the 2010 season when he threw for 23 touchdowns and 2,734 yards as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He made the Pro Bowl following the season.

Last March, Garrard signed with the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal and was the favorite to win the starting job before undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his back. The team released him in September.

Garrard, a nine-year veteran, has thrown for 16,003 yards with 89 touchdowns and 54 interceptions in his career.

If will be nice to see Tebow leave the ship of fools and its leader Wrecks Ryan.

What is it with the Jets' and QB's?  Garrard's not any better than Tebow so why do the deal (unless he's cheaper, of course; never mind).  I guess the bigger question is why the Jets are sticking with Sanchez.  There is just absolutely nothing to suggest that he can take his game to the next level (sorry about the cliche).  They should have cut him and looked for a starter (Alex Smith, anyone?).  By keeping Sanchez, they're pretty much ensuring that it's going to be the same old, same old next year, no matter who his backup is.  But what do I know?

rukiddingme Garrard not better than Tebow?  What is it about "16,003 yards with 89 touchdowns and 54 interceptions" don't you understand?  At his current rate Tebow will be about 65 before he throws for 16,000 yards.

renee I'll grant you that Garrard is statistically better than Tebow but what has he won (or done) with it?  His teams have always been mediocre and he hasn't ever elevated them with his play.  His stats are better than Sanchez's, for that matter, but who's backing up who?  Presumably, there's a reason for one player starting ahead of another player and it doesn't always have to do with statistics.  And wasn't it Mark Twain that said there are three kinds of lies; big lies, white lies and statistics?  Anyway, it's nothing against Garrard personally, I just don't see how he's going to make the Jets a better football team.

Moar like the Jets sign David Garrard to be their starter. I cant imagine them letting butt fumble back on the field.

why didnt the jets look to pick up alex smith for revis.  this would have been the best scenario by far for them

Mike119 I don't think the Niners need Revis or want his contract. And I know the Jets did not think Smith was worth his contract.
