The Miami Herald broke the news on Sunday morning, citing a source “close to the running back” who said three teams have been after Bush’s services, but the Dolphins are not one of them.

… Bush categorically will not return to the team in 2013, the source added.

Although the news shouldn’t be a surprise — it has become clear over the past few months that the Dolphins intend to go forward with Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas — it might still be unsettling for many fans. Bush was a popular player, both locally and nationally, and was the closest thing the team had to a true star.

Bush’s career saw a resurgence with the Dolphins. After getting just 70 carries in 2009 and 36 during an injury-plagued 2010 campaign, the former USC star signed with Miami, where he received more than 200 carries each of the past two years, tallying 1,086 and 986 rushing yards in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Bush has gained plenty of garbage yards during garbage time playing for a garbage team.  Expect the Dolphins to do just as well or better (as a team) with him gone.

Best player on the team, after the punter and long snapper. True story.
