The Chicago Blackhawks NHL-record of 24 consecutive games with a point ended Friday night after losing to the Colorado Avalanche, 6-2. It’s their first loss in regulation since March 25 of last year.
Chicago raced out to an early 1-0 lead following a first period goal from Jonathan Toews but was unable to slow the oncoming onslaught from Colorado.
The Avalanche got on the board late in the first with a power play goal from Paul Stastny. Colorado put home four more goals in the second period of play to extend their lead to 5-1 over Chicago.
The Blackhawks Bryan Bickell shortened the Avalanche lead to 5-2 with a goal midway through the third period. Chicago wouldn’t have a comeback to extend the streak this time against Colorado. P.A. Parenteau iced the game for the Avalanche with a third-period goal.
During the streak, the Blackhawks went 21-0-3 while compiling 45 points to put them atop the Western Conference standings. This is the first loss of the season since the shortened NHL season began on January 18.
I’m really excited the Avalanche ended Chicago’s streak tonight! I was listening to the game on the radio while working my shift at DISH and can’t wait to get home and watch it. I have my DISH Hopper set to record all the Avalanche games this season and love that it can store up to 2,000 hours of entertainment to hold them all.
