Joe Flacco’s historic new six-year, $120.6-million contract with the Baltimore Ravens includes a whopping $52 million in guaranteed money, USA Today’s Jim Corbett reported Sunday.

Flacco and the Ravens agreed to the contract on Friday and he will sign it Monday, according to the report. The deal makes the Super Bowl MVP Flacco the highest-paid player in NFL history and could keep him in a Ravens uniform through age 34.

Corbett reported that the contract will count only $6.8 million against the Ravens’ salary cap this season. The deal also aids the Ravens because they now are free to use their franchise tag, if they choose, on one of three players — linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, defensive end Paul Kruger or safety Ed Reed.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told the NFL Network’s Albert Breer that he was happy about the deal.

“Just very happy for Joe, his family & also for Ravens fans,” Harbaugh told Breer via text message. “He['s] always been our QB. So to me, this is very fitting.”

Flacco had a stellar postseason while leading the Ravens to a 34-31 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. In the playoffs, he threw 11 touchdowns to no interceptions and completed nearly 58 percent of his passes.

I get that this is a deal that the Ravens had to make to keep their QB, but lets face it.  Their fierce D is now gone with Lewis retiring, Ed Reed in decline (and probably gone), Kruger and Ellerbe becoming FAs.  It was their D that turned the tide in the AFC Championship and it was their D that was a major factor in their win in the SuperBowl.  Now, Flacco's deal may be backloaded but it also ruins the economy in the NFL.  If Flacco is a $20 million avg per year player then there are at least 5 if not 10 QBs that are $25-30 million per.  Not to mention more egomaniacs holding out for ridiculous money.

IMO, Flacco will deliver and be worth every penny. and I'm not a Ravens fan. The guy is growing, and is still young....

Baltimore will regret this contract very very soon. Flacco is a good quarterback, not elite, and certainly not worthy of being the highest paid player in NFL history. Less than 3-months ago even folks in Baltimore were seriously questioning if he was worth holding onto. He did get hot at exactly the right time, but really, his 5 year career taken as a whole hasn't earned this contract.

rick 37 dosen't get it. Flacco dosen't even have to be 10/10 for this team, just be very good 8/10. 52m guaranteed is a sharp deal. They can keep Boldin who goes over middle, Smith can stretch the secondary and Rice can keep running in the box. Brees and Brady do not have those options, and they certainly do not have the defense on the other side of the ball. This deal gives Ravens sustained success ability.

Scramble doesn't understand the basic math on this.  Ozzie saved significant $ on the cap.  Putting a 14MM tag on Flacco would render the Ravens useless in free agency.

Ozzie Newsome is as good a GM as any in the NFL. He did this in the most advantageous way possible for the Ravens.

You may not be the only one, but what exactly was Baltimore supposed to do?  Franchising him still makes him paid along with the elite QBs, plus, you'd lose a LB.  You going to cut him or deal him (so the browns can get him), hardly.  He played his way into this contract, plain and simple.  What if he wins you two more SBs, worth it then right?  But, yeah, it looks to me like you're betting on at least one more SB in the next 6 years and if that doesnt come there's going to be some massive rebuilding.

Am I the only one who sees this as a mistake?  I mean this guy isn't a QB isn't even close to as good as Dree Brees or Tom Brady....

@Brad9 You tag him at 14 and see what other teams will offer. Do you think another team was going to offer him this absurd amount of money. This way you find out his worth to other teams and counter their offer. The team and front office made Flacco, not the other way around. If he was on the Browns like Derick Anderson he would probably be out of the league by now or still carrying a clip board.

@rickk37 It's amazing how one person can use the success of the whole team to extort that kind of money. As a Ravens fan I have lost all respect for Flacco. His ego is and salary are bigger than his stats. I feel for the Ravens, the rest of the team and fans. They should have franchised him at 14 mil and just see what other offers were made. The team has to carry him, he can't carry a team.

@Scramble You should check out PK's MMQB. I think Ozzie Newsome will get the last laugh on this one...
