Mike Trout’s agent Craig Landis rips Angels for renewed $510,000 contract

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout gave the team near-MVP-level production for just $480,000 as a 20-year-old rookie last season. The Angels renewed Trout’s contract for $510,000 on Saturday — just $20,000 above the major-league minimum — and the AL Rookie of the Year and MVP runner-up’s agent, Craig Landis, is not happy about it.
Landis criticized the organization in comments to the Los Angeles Times‘ Mike DiGiovanna, saying that the contract was not fair and was not the result of a “negotiated compromise.”
After three seasons in the minor leagues, Trout exploded onto the scene last season, enjoying a historically great rookie year that included a .326 average, 30 home runs and 49 stolen bases.
#Angels renewed OF Mike Trout's contract at $510,000. Wow. I didn't think it would be that low. $20,000 above major league minimum.—

Said Craig Landis, agent for #Angels OF Mike Trout: "The $510K salary was not result of a negotiated compromise between Mike and the Angels"—

More Craig Landis: "In my opinion (Trout) contract falls well short of a "fair" contract and I have voiced this to the #Angels."—

By comparison, Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun won the Rookie of the Year award at age 24 in 2007 and the club renewed his contract for more than $1 million during his second season. Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, the NL Rookie of the Year in 2012 and a player often compared to Trout, will make $750,00 this season.
Last Landis: "Mike will put disappointment behind him and focus on helping the #Angels reach their goal of winning the 2013 World Series."—

There is no way in heck that baseball will fold the reason the players get paid like they do is the sheer volume of games they play will insure that they will always make billions for the owners. There are 162 games and there are 16000 seats in a stadium. Even if they fill up half the stadium at 75 per ticket they make thats close to 100 million dollars then add merchandise food beer advertising etc and you have a profit machine and THEN add that they get these astronomical TV deals and that will be the reason baseball will never die by the way the AL preview is out check out what we have to say on the up and coming A's, the big spending Angels and the rest of the division http://sportsenvy.blogspot.com/2013/02/baseball-is-back-american-league.html

I don't know what minor league ball you are watching, but most stadiums have over 40,000 seats. Most minor league stadiums have over 7,000 seats.

LikeLost in all this is that Tout has only played 1 season. He will eventually be paid, but why pay someone after 1 year. I think Trout will have a great career, but there are plenty of rookie of the years that end up being a bust.
$510,000 is a lot of money for the average person. On another note, I can't wait for baseball to fold because of all these ridiculous contracts (in general). All these players and agents (more so) do is complain about not being paid millions.

Like99.999999999999999999% of Americans - and everyone reading this article - would sacrifice their mothers to Uhluhtc to earn an annual salary of $510,000. And that's not even pointing out that Trout plays a kid's game...

Likenick_villano cardsfan67 No he wouldn't (if he had a brain). He'd bust his ass and by the time he's 25 he'd be making tens of millions of dollars a year.
California would have been idiotic to overpay when they do not have to overpay. Trout'll get his multi-millions. A half million a year for a 21 year old is really hard to take, I'm sure, but I'm not in tears for him as I type this.

LikePerhaps Mr Landis should have figured out how to put in incentive levels for Trout to achieve. Contracts are contracts and I am sure the Angels will do something..but good grief, how many agents ask their players to take pay cuts when they under perform?
