Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford is having issues with his elbow and has been shut down from throwing and hitting, and is now “challenged” to be ready by Opening Day, reports MLB.com.

The Dodgers acquired Crawford in last summer’s blockbuster trade with Boston and missed the remainder of the season after Tommy John reconstruction surgery on his left elbow in August.. The team says Crawford will rest his elbow by taking anti-inflammatory medication. Crawford hit .282 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 31 games with the Red Sox before being traded.

The diagnosis of “minor nerve irritation” was made Thursday night, after the outfielder flew to Los Angeles to be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

“There doesn’t seem to be any panic,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “We’re still being cautious. I look at this as more of a setback than I did the last couple of days. He can’t throw and hit. He can still track [pitches], do baserunning, fly balls. He can still do work. But this pushes it back a bit. This definitely challenges the timing of it.

Instead of having four weeks, we’ll have three. There’s still time. But I’d rather he came back after 10 days or 20 days and have him healthy for a solid 140 than have him in and out.”

Sounds like if Puig continues his hot start, he's got a shot at making the club for opening day.

@JoeyBagadoughnutz Actually it was the Red Sox who pulled a fast one. Crawford wasn't injured when the Sox signed him but when they pawned him off? Lol.
