Javier Vazquez ends comeback attempt to MLB

MLB

Former MLB pitcher Javier Vazquez, who last played for the Marlins in 2011, has ended his comeback attempt to the big leagues, as confirmed in a tweet Wednesday morning from Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Vazquez, 36, had undergone knee surgery in January to repair his right meniscus and had planned to play in the World Baseball Classic in March to gauge how close he was to an MLB return but according to James Wagner of the Washington Post, the 14-year veteran is now mulling retirement. In 2011 for the Marlins, Vazquez posted a 13-11 record with a 3.69 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

He had drawn interest from a number of teams this winter, including the Nationals, Red Sox, Rays, Royals, Mets, White Sox and Phillies but for now it appears that his plans are on hold.
