Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o seems he will have more questions to answer when he gets in the room with NFL general managers and coaches.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio says that GM’s will want to know about Te’o sexuality, even if it is not relevant to Te’o’s skills as a football player.

Te’o is still answering questions about the strange controversy about him lying about his fake dead girlfriend last month. Te’o has made the rounds on the interview circuit including being questioned by ESPN, Katie Couric and dozens of reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

“On the field, you still have to account for what happened in the BCS National Championship Game against Alabama,” Florio told the Dan Patrick Show, via CBSSports.com. “Here’s the elephant in the room for the teams and it shouldn’t matter, but we have to step aside from the rest of reality and walk into the unique industry that is the NFL. Teams want to know whether Manti Te’o is gay. They just want to know. They want to know because in an NFL locker room, it’s a different world. It shouldn’t be that way.”

I don’t think you can ask that question — because of the Dez Bryant question (he was asked by Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland if his mother was a prostitute) of a few years ago,” Florio said. “If you go Katie Couric on Manti Te’o, it’s going to come out that some team, some GM some coach asked Manti Te’o if he’s gay. Then you’ll have to deal with all the distraction and all the stuff that flows after that.”

They know already. They just want him to admit that he's gay. The whole phantom girlfriend was just a cover-up story to hide his sexuality. It was suppose to be the excuse as to why he was never seen with a woman on campus until some of his teammates outed him.

Man up Manti !

NFL teams shouldn't be concerned if Te'o is gay or not. They should be concerned that when Te'o played against a real team (Alabama) he looked like a child playing against men. This kid is ALL hype and no substance on the football field. Won't even be in the league 2 yrs from now.

Odds are that on every 53 player roster there are at least one or two gay guys. Odds are everyone in the locker room can tell you who they are. Obviously it hasn't been a problem so far, why are they asking about it now? They should be focusing on whether the young man can play NFL level football.

"Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o seems he will have more questions to answer...."

"Seems"? How is this an intelligible English sentence?

I really don't know what to think about T'eo.  His time in the 40 was slow.  "Bama" exposed him in the Championship game.  I don't think that he will be selected until the late rounds of the draft.  As far as the Gay rumors go, just be careful and don't drop the soap.

I guess someone forgot to tell the NFL that real men don't want to be around gays and that it doesn't matter if it would destroy team unity and discipline because we are all supposed to accept what nature and God reject.  As a former player and coach I speak from experience but I'm sure some of you have some clever lies to spin.

This is incredibly stupid line of questions. No chance he is asked. It is illegal.

The Illinois Human Rights Act also prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation.  So, the Bears legally could not base a hiring decision on that protected category.

In California, sexuality is a "legally protected characteristic" and an employer can't discriminate against you or ask you about it during an interview.  I'm curious if California teams could be in legal trouble if they ask, but if teams in other states would be allowed.

It shouldn't matter what his sexuality is because it has nothing to do with his ability to play football.  But the reality is that Football is a locker room sport and there is outright discrimination against homosexuals.  That is a leadership problem and it's up to the coaches, general managers, owners and the NFL commissioner to create and enforce policies to change that "locker room" culture.  But today, it's an unfortunate reality.

Why do they need to know? What difference does a player's "sexuality" make? There are probably already a few closeted gays in every NFL locker room.

Ordinarily, I would agree with everyone else that a person's sexuality is nobody else's business.  But Te'o has nobody to blame but himself for these questions, as his participation in the lie is responsible for making it a potential distraction.

With all the kids that T.O. and Cromartie have had I am sure some GM wouldn't mind a gay guy in the locker room to minimize the amount of paternity suits.

It is none of their business.  The NFL should want players, not escorts...Don't they????

One guy playing ILB isn't going to make any impact on the outcome of that game. Everyone looked ridiculous on Notre Dame's defense because BAMA was manhandling... It's easier to make him a non factor. Te'o still is attractive to some teams because of his obvious ball hawking ability, not because he's the next Ray Lewis... I do agree with you though, I don't see him lasting long in the league. He may still go in the first round though.

 @JasonMacBride You are imposing the assumption that NFL teams will have the same proportions on sexual orientation as the general population. Why should you? They don't have the same proportions on race as the general population. I suspect homosexuals are considerably more rare in pro sports than in the general population.

 @James L Again, no clever lies.  You just need to get over yourself.  How do you know what God accepts and doesn't accept? You don't. Keep in mind that the bible was written by man.

@James L No lies. Just a comment. Get over it you bigoted ahole. Did you play in the 1940's cuz most young players could not care less.

 It shouldn't matter?  So, if he engages in bestiality, incest, polygamy, or pedophila, it wouldn't matter, either?  Come on, guys -- don't make an exception for one deviant sexual behavior.  Doing disgusting things with another man is a legitimate concern to people who are considering paying this guy a lot of money and having him represent their brand.

Why do they need to know?  Doing disgusting things with another man is a legitimate concern to people who are considering paying this guy a lot of money and having him represent their brand.  If he engaged in bestiality, incest, polygamy, or pedophila, it wouldn't matter, either -- is that what you're saying?  Come on, guys -- don't make an exception for one deviant sexual behavior.

 @BrianDavis I don't know any reason to think the proportion of gay guys is smaller on an NFL team than in the general population. But even if it's half there would still be one or two on each team. And, respectfully, you seem to have some misconceptions about gay guys who can be both very tough and quite athletic.

 @EPLfan  @SammyzBestiality and incest have nothing to do with homosexuality. They have a lot to do with depravity and lack of intelligence. EPLfan you need to worry because you are in danger of hurting someone (incest, pedophilia) or an animal (bestiality). Don't worry about homosexuality, though, because you are an ugly person. Nobody likes ugly people.

 @EPLfan  @Sammyz What's your fascination with "deviant sexual behavior"? Almost everything you posted on is about you fantasizing about other people's sexual activities. When you watch Wayne LaPierre, Grover Norquist and Sean Hannity speak, do you wonder about their sex life? If not, what do you care about Manti's?

Again what does homosexuality have to do with any of those things? Your argument/logic is still quite flawed...

 @bbthree03

 "...as long as nobody is being harmed...".  Have the courage of your convictions, and don't be a hypocrite:  support bestiality, incest, polygamy, and (if the legal age of consent is lowered to 12, as some are attempting) man-boy sex.  Not hurting anyone, right?  Pathetic intellectual and moral lightweight.

bbthree03
bbthree03

EPLfan, you are a dinosaur and your kind will hopefully one day be extinct... Who are you to tell other people how they should live? I'm also conservative, you reserve the right to your own opinion but as long as nobody is being harmed I have no problem with homosexuality. That has nothing to do with Hollywood or being educated by liberal professors...

 @zonkeriah  @57mb

Says the morally-bankrupt drone who parrots the mantra of the day, not thinking for himself.  I challenge you to give an argument as to why those other deviant sexual practices are INHERENTLY wrong -- I believe you are devoid of that sort of moral foundation or reasoning ability.

 @EPLfan  @57mb LOL...seriously? You forgot molesting underage Martians,  luring angles from heaven and forcing them to do the Macarena while crushing babies between their artificially enhanced breasts, and having unprotected sex with wingtips stolen from the feet of ministers who died while saving the planet from communist moths.

You are a FLAMING idiot.

 Sure, "live and let live" with practitioners of bestiality, incest, polygamy, and pedophilia as well, right?  Come on, have the courage of your principles -- if you "don't have a problem with homosexuals", go support the advocates for these other disgusting practices.  Or simply stick your head in the ground and avoid the long-term consequences of that pathetic "live and let live" mantra.

Rick K.

 @EPLfan  @tjs  @zonkeriah  @57mb This is a pretty ridiculous train of thought you have going on here.  And when did this become a liberal vs. conservative issue.  I'm conservative, don't have a problem with homosexuals and really just try to live with the "live and let live" approach.

tundey

 @EPLfan  @tjs  @zonkeriah  @57mb Why must you do A if you do B when A and B have nothing to do with each other. Must we also legitimize slavery if we legitimize homosexuality (BTW, news flash: homosexuality is legal and yet none of those things you linked are even close to being legalized...infact there's no one advocating for them. The only time bestiality, pedophilia and incest are mentioned in the same sentence as "legalize" is when people like you do it.

EPLfan
EPLfan

 @tjs  @zonkeriah  @57mb

 Bestiality = consentual for the only entity of importance, the human...not harming innocent animals...therefore, A-OK in liberal land.

Incest = who says they have to have children, as with homosexuals?  No children conceived, no harm, right?  A-OK in liberal land, since mother-son or brother-brother sex is consentual...right, reprobate?

Pedophilia = the perverts are already trying to get the age of consent lowered so they can brutalize children and call it "consentual"...once accomplished, your liberal Hollywood masters will give you your script to read off of, supporting this degeneracy.

Face the facts -- you must open marriage to immediate family members (incest) and multiple partners (polygamy), if you open it to homosexuals.  SImilarly, you must legitimize all of the aforementioned deviant sexual practices if you legitimize homosexuality.

tjs
tjs

 @EPLfan  @zonkeriah  @57mb

Bestiality = nonconsensual harming of innocent animals

Incest = increased chance of birth defects for innocent child

pedophilia = nonconsensual harming of innocent children

polygamy = consenting adults not harming anyone

homosexuality = consenting adults not harming anyone

Pretty simple to point out the varying levels of morality of each of the items you bring up there champ....oh and by the way the authority in this case of employment lies with the State, who is pretty clear on the illegality of basing employment of the sexual preference of a potential employee.

The world will be a brighter place when people like you fade away.

EPLfan
EPLfan

 @zonkeriah  @EPLfan  @57mb

 Says the morally-bankrupt drone who only parrots the script given to him by his Hollywood and media masters.  Obviously you have no moral authority with which to disapprove of bestiality, incest, polygamy, or pedophilia if you are in favor of homosexuality.  No logical arguments against, either, since defenses of "equal rights" for practicing homosexuals use exactly the same logic as defenders of those other vile practices.  Pathetic intellectual lightweight.
