After Mark Cuban told the “Ben and Skin” radio show that the Lakers might want to consider amnestying Kobe Bryant, Kobe dropped 38 points against Cuban’s team and tweeted “Amnesty THAT” in response. Now it looks like Bryant isn’t the only one unhappy with Cuban’s comments.

The league is debating fining Cuban for saying that the Lakers should consider waiving Bryant via the amnesty provision, reports The Los Angeles Times. Cuban could be in hot water for violating tampering charges. Owners shouldn’t discuss other team’s business matters, contracts, or free agents. Cuban’s comments did fit that criteria.

“If you look at their payroll, even if Dwight (Howard) comes back, you’ve got to ask the question: Should they amnesty Kobe?” Cuban said Friday. “So I’m just saying that hypothetically. When I say amnesty Kobe, I don’t think they’d do it, but they’ve got some choices to make. Now, they’re in a big market, but they’re still limited. The Knicks, the same thing. Boston, same thing.”

Cuban is already the most fined NBA history; another fine would be unsurprising.

NBA going overboard on this one.  Just Cuban talking, Kobe made him look stupid, thats the end of it.

Nuggets out-scored the Lakers tonight something like 32-2 on fast break points. Cuban was right...but still shouldn't have said it.

That game is a misrepresentation. Denver was off the day before, Lakers played a hard fought game the day before and had to travel to the high attittude of Denver. They are older and not as deep and still was a close game midway thru the 4th Quarter.  I remember when those Nuggets came a calling to San Antonio in the same scenario in December and got whooped 126-100. Get real dude!

Of course Cuban wants the Lakers to amnesty Kobe so he can sign him to the Mavs.

He can't sign him. He would not be a FA. First option goes to the team with the worst record in the prior year and the player has no option, he either accepts or retires.

@master7727 No one has the cap room to claim him off waivers.  He'll be a FA if they were to cut him loose.

@Mark4 @master7727 The Lakers would be responsible for his $30M salary and the team that he sign with will only have to pay him a few million for the year. Just like Michael Finley when Dallas amnestied him. San Antonio only paid him around $3M a year but he got his ring.

Mark is a top-of-the-class idiot. Wait for a humongous fine from the little dictator

I'm a Lakers fan but Cuban earns my respect for putting his money where his mouth is, even if it's in David Stern's pocket.
