Alabama makes scholarship offer to eighth-grader

Uncategorized

Alabama is already trying to secure the nation’s top recruiting class…for the year 2017.

The two-time defending national champions hosted a junior day last weekend and Baton Rouge, La. 8th grader Dylan Moses showed up at the event. By the time it was over, the Crimson Tide were so impressed they offered Moses a scholarship, reports AL.com.

Moses, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound athlete, received an offer from LSU last summer and starred at both running back and linebacker.

“We met with Coach Saban after lunch, and he talked to Dylan about his future and what he needed to do to achieve his potential as a student and as a football player,” Dylan’s father Edward Moses said.  “When he said he was offering Dylan a scholarship, we asked a lot of questions just to make sure we knew exactly what he meant. Coach Saban said the Alabama staff believes Dylan has a chance to be the best player in the country in the Class of 2017 and they were ready to offer him a scholarship. That’s when the fireworks started going off in our heads.”

So lame to do this.  Give the kid a chance to grow up a bit.  Plus it's only college football.  YAWN...who cares.  Wake us up when he actually plays real football, in the NFL.

Coincidentally, his classmate is tutoring a dozen "Bama starters.

it's easy for him at the moment because he's a man among boys. Let's see what he does at Alabama against Texas A&M against guys his size or bigger.. They're all big and fast in college.

Don't worry. This kid will get into drugs and blow it.

Didn't Matt Barkley commit to USC in the eighth grade? This isn't anything new.

I thought Penn State was the only school that the coaches actively recruited boys 13 and under

If the kids' parents were smart, they'd get the scholarship guaranteed.  That way, if the kid winds up getting hurt and not being as good as he is now, he still doesn't have to worry about college, and Alabama can look stupid for this stupid move.

What a joke!  Schools are recruiting 13 year-olds now?  Way too young.  Things change so quickly in recruiting and promises are broken on both sides, I think if you offer a scholarship to a kid before his junior year, you are obligated to honor it for 3 years.  The kids can't sign until signing day to keep them from committing to someplace too early.  This would keep the schools more in line.

The thing about these child physical prodigies is that all too often their early growth obfuscates their adult potential.

Moses is dominant now, but of course he is, being a 6-foot-1, 215-pound 14 year old.  However, eventually his peers will catch up in growth, and it will take other talents to continue setting him apart.  So the obvious question is:  will they?

@BosephHeyden Alabama can't actually offer a binding scholarship until after the kid's junior year.

@leehwgoc If he keeps growing at the same pace he will be too big to be a running back. maybe a lineman by then.

@FermanPerry  @Notre Dude Is he the Racist or the person who cries about race every-time someone says something they don't like.  He is making the comment how 'bama has had issues with this problem.  Dopes like you who try to make everything about your skin color or the other true racists.  Get Out Of the Damn 60's and 70's
