Islanders place Rick DiPietro on waivers

The Islanders officially placed goalie Rick DiPietro on waivers Friday.
If he clears waivers, the Islanders will send DiPietro to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League and likely call up goalie Kevin Poulin.
DiPietro, the first overall pick in the 2000 NHL Draft, has been hampered by multiple injuries including a groin strain, sports hernia and a knee injury — after signing a 15-year, $67.5 million contract extension in 2006. The 31-year-old has not played a full-time since the 2007-08 season
He saw his last NHL action in eight games last season, finishing 3-2-3 with a 3.73 goals-against average and a .875 save percentage.
Intent is to send DiPietro to Bridgeport. Kevin Poulin to be recalled once DiPietro clears. #Isles—

This is why you don't ever have a ex goalie as your GM. You go Garth Snow.
