Bobby Valentine has his first job after being fired as Red Sox manager last October — athletic director at Sacred Heart.

The Connecticut Post reported on Thursday that Valentine will be named Sacred Heart’s new athletic director next Tuesday, citing a source familiar with the situation. Valentine, who is a native of Stamford, Conn., will succeed current athletic director Don Cook, who is retiring in July. Sacred Heart is in Fairfield, Conn., not far from Stamford.

“An intriguing opportunity has been presented to me and it’s something I really feel I can enjoy doing and I feel could be mutually beneficial,” Valentine told the Post.

The paper reported that Valentine interviewed for the job in January.

SI.com’s Richard Deitsch reported in January that Valentine was set to co-host a daily sports-talk show on NBC Sports Radio beginning in April. It’s unclear at this point how this deal with Sacred Heart would affect those plans.

Valentine endured a tumultuous one season as Red Sox manager, clashing with management and players at various points during the season. Valentine guided the Red Sox to their worst season in 47 years, as they went 69-93 and finished in last place in the American League East.

He also managed the Texas Rangers from 1985-1992 and the New York Mets from 1996-2002. Valentine has also served as an ESPN baseball analyst.

That's a good place for him> More than a hundred miles from Boston and New York!  It might be too early to say,  "But everyone except the Sacred Heart athletes should be safe!"  BTW, isn't Sacred Heart an all girls Catholic High School?-Now that's a really good place for Bobby V. to go!  :P
