Michael Phelps participates in Orioles batting practice
Swimmer Michael Phelps — and the most decorated Olympian in history — was out taking batting practice with the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, reports CBS Sports. He participated in five rounds and wore number 18, representing the 18 Olympic gold medals he has won throughout his career. He didn’t hit any home runs, but had a pretty good showing:
“It was my first time taking BP, so it was a real cool experience, being able to do that with these guys, and especially after a remarkable season, and hopefully they have a good one coming up,” said Phelps, who lives in Canton. “Everyone was sitting here saying what I should be doing, so I just tried to listen to all of them a little bit. I wanted to hit one out, but we caught a couple that were close.”
Phelps said he had played baseball until he was 12. He grew up just north of Baltimore in Towson, Maryland and is an Orioles fan.
