Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel told reporters prior to receiving the Davey O’Brien Quarterback Award Monday that he’s taking all classes online this semester and only comes to campus about once a week.

Manziel said the commotion that followed his breakthrough season as Heisman Trophy winner during Texas A&M’s inaugural SEC season was unexpected. Too many students asking for photo opps and autographs made class environments nearly impossible for other students and professors.

“I didn’t think anything of it, and it kind of turned into a little more of a big deal than I thought,” Manziel said, according to the Associated Press.

His online course load meets NCAA and university regulations. Manziel and his parents met with athletic director Eric Hyman and Texas A&M compliance officials regarding his on-campus challenges and his off-season life that included trips to the Super Bowl and the NBA All-Star Game.

“I feel like by now if I was doing something wrong, compliance would have definitely figured something out,” Manziel said

... Seems like a sensible enough option to me. It'd be difficult trying to learn anything with a rabid horde of fans and groupies swarming you at every turn.

You guys are all morons. Did you once think maybe he takes online classes so he can train harder? All I on here is bitter old guys who talk smack cuz they never had the success this young man has in front of him. To be frank, online classes are the future of education. Now if he was taking online classes because he is on house arrest then I'd see a problem but he didn't do anything wrong, all he did was choose to take classes online. Big deal. He might not be a NFL great one day. He might be the greatest of all time. Ryan Leaf was supposed to incredible and he is in jail. Hardly anyone thought Tom Brady was anything better than a reliable back up. Let him make his own fate...

Manziel MAY want to getting fitted for a MUCH larger helmet!   Note that he had a GREAT college football season.   Note also that many college QBs are successful and have little to no success in the NFL.  (Just listing Heisman winning QBs with no NFL success would be too easy, so let's not bother).  Note also that Manziel does not have an NFL type body for a QB.  Manziel MAY want to reconsider his responsibilities and grow up a little.

At this point, I give Manziel about a 50-50 chance of being successful in the NFL.  Otherwise, it's the CFL, or an actual job.  Hopefully all those online course will prepare him for that!  What a waste of a college experience.

For those of you who think Manziel is an NFL HOF type player waiting until he can apply for the draft, please look at ALL the Heisman winning QBs with a similar height and weight as Manziel.  His success in the NFL is ABSOLUTELY NOT guaranteed.  (No disrespect, just calling it like it is).

Do the crowds stop him from going to the local hangouts????????  They didn't stop him from attending the Super Bowl.

This young man has not a singe ethical bone in his body. Who is actually taking the classes.. Mark my words, he will be in the news again....another law violation or something totally inappropriate like taking money. Larry

@John4 Could you sound like a bigger negative b!tch on here or what? What's your point and who cares? Those are the two questions you should ask yourself before posting on here.

@alhmiel Actually, academically, it's not bad at all.  You should look it up.  Also note that almost all Universities offer online courses.

John Pee - just eff off.  I said nothing negative.  I had a comical comment about Manziel having a big head, then followed up with the FACT that he's NOT a given for the NFL.  He does not have an NFL body.  Also, there have been many Heisman winning QBs who had little to no success in the NFL.  (White, Crouch).  Note that taking ALL online courses takes away from the college experience, especially if he's only going to campus once a week.  (He seems to put in far more than one public appearance per week, and they do not seem to be a problem at all).  Photos and Autographs on campus.  Kind of like EVERY Heisman winner who returns to college for another year or two.  Why is that such a burden for Manzeil, but more importantly, John Pee, why are you such a B !TCH?

@JohnP  @John4 Don't hate on someone who simply gives you facts.  Manziel is great in college.  So was Tommy Frazier, Tim Tebow, and a hundred other guys who were not well suited to the NFL game.  It's no slight to JM.  You are the one sounding like a b!tch when you whine about someone bringing knowledge.
