New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis says he was “speechless” when his name came up in trade rumors and that the team needs to provide answers to him as to what his status with the team is.

Revis missed the majority of the 2012 season when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in September. He says he has spoken with new general manager John Idzik and wants to know how the rumors got out in the first place.

“I was speechless; I tweeted it out I was speechless. I was speechless because I didn’t get a phone call,” Revis said in an interview with NFL network. “I know it’s a business — just call me; don’t have it lingering out there. I need answers and I’m not getting any. Just the fact that that was put out there instead of contacting your best player on the team. If that’s how you want to do business, then that’s fine.”

Revis signed a four-year, $46 million in 2010 that included $32.5 million in guarantees.  His contract stipulates that he cannot be slapped with the franchise tag when his deal voids following the 2013 season.

He's good, very good, but he seems to have a bad case of the Randy Moss. He wants top dollar every single year, he gets paid a lot for a CB and still whines because other people in other teams earn more. He strikes me as someone who is very close to start walking his assignments while he grumbles.

totally agree bbc. Revis has been running game and will NEVER BE HAPPY unless he is top paid IN LEAGUE, not just cornerback. Jets need him off the books and can send a message of contrition on some of the bad deals they have done like sanchez by saying they are not going to be pushed around.

He strikes me as the type of player and person who will always find something to complain about. If he gets the big contract, he'll complain that the talent around him is atrocious, without understanding it's the direct result of having 1/6th of the cap tied to one player.

If the said "best player on the team" holds out every other year despite signing and agreeing to a multi-year deal this is exactly what happens. Frankly this is one decision where I can't fault Jets. Knowing Revis he will want to be paid top dollars and hold-out the very next year so there's no point keeping Revis on the team. He will most probably move on as a free agent next year so Jets may as well get a pick or two for him in return this year.
