Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia Airport in New York City Monday morning after police discovered he was illegally carrying a handgun, reports NBCNewYork.com.
Bowers was arrested at an airport check-in counter after a loaded .40 caliber gun was found in his carry-on bag, spokesmen for the Port Authority and the Queens District Attorney’s office said. Bowers was to board a US Airways flight to Raleigh, N.C.
Bowers was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and is scheduled to appear in court Monday night. A team spokesman said Bowers is declining comment as the organization investigates.
Bowers, a second-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, finished the 2012 season with 10 tackles and three sacks after missing the first six games with a torn Achilles tendon.
NY is probably the worst place in this country to get pinched for illegal gun possession.
Geez guys, give him a break. He's moonlighting during the off-season as an Air Marshall. He brought the gun, but forgot his Air Marshall badge. That's the real problem.
Must have slipped his mind
How do you not know that there is a gun in your luggage?
