Golfer bitten by black widow spider digs out venom — and finishes round

Uncategorized

A golfer at an LPGA pre-qualifying event was bitten by a black widow spider — and still managed to finish her round, according to a story from USA TODAY.

Daniela Holmqvist, a rookie from Sweden, felt the bite above her ankle after hitting a shot from the rough on the fourth hole of a tournament in Canberra, Australia.

Then, she grabbed a spare tee and dug out the venom as her leg started to swell.

“A clear fluid came out,” she told Karin Klarström of Svensk Golf. “It wasn’t the prettiest thing I’ve ever done, but I had to get as much of it out of me as possible.”

Holmqvist played the final 14 holes of her round with medical personnel trailing her. She finished with a 74.

I have always said that golfers are not only the greatest athletes in all of sports, but also the toughest........

Sounds like she is trying for a Darwin Award.

Besides which attempting to dig out the venom with a tee is about the most idiotic thing a person could do.

A "furry" Black Widow. I don't think so. More like a tarantula, which would cause no harm.
