Larry Bird’s son was arrested Sunday and faces multiples charges after allegedly trying to hit his ex-girlfriend with a car in a parking lot, according to a report Tuesday from Bill McLeery of The Indianapolis Star.

Connor Bird, 21, faces a number of preliminary charges, including battery with injury, criminal mischief, intimidation with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana. According to police, Bird threw a cell phone at his ex-girlfriend while in the middle of a dispute at his apartment. He then waited outside of her apartment later that day and took her to a parking lot to “try to talk things over,” according to the report, but she got out of the car to go back home and then he tried to hit her with the vehicle while he was behind the wheel, according to an eye-witness account from a student at Indiana University. According to a report from The Associated Press, IU police arrested Bird after tracking down his vehicle.

Bird bonded out of Monroe County Jail and his attorney said that it is their hope that things will be fixed in a timely manner, adding that they are thankful no one was seriously injured in the incident.

“This is a very private matter that we’re going to try to resolve quickly. We’re thankful that no one was seriously injured.”

If the article is about 21 year old Connor Bird, why is the accompanying photo of his father. Do you post a picture of the parents of other alleged criminals you feature in an article? I find it hard to believe your reporters couldn't find a single picture of the accused. In fact, I'm guessing nobody even tried. By the way, would this story have received this much attention had this kid had a different father? Come on, SI, you're a classy operation -- act like one!

What's there to talk about, "sitting in wait" for the victim;  or the attempt of the use of deadly force.  He did not take the opportunity to calm down or to seek help. Nor was he concerned that his point of view was heard; it was a matter of control...He further show a disregard for the severity of the incident by his behaviors afterwards. He clearly have an attitude of entitlement and a disregard for a human's life. Clearly, there will be a lot of money talking but the truth is this is a dangerous person without respect for the lives of others.

"This is a very private matter that we’re going to try to resolve quickly. We’re thankful that no one was seriously injured.”  Who is thankful?  Bird tried to kill this woman and now they are thankful no one was seriously injured.  I bet he walks with nary more than a slap on the wrist.  Willing to also bet this isn't his first attempt to hurt this woman.
