Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Marmol says he is the victim of an extortion scheme from a woman that claims Marmol kidnapped and abused her.

Marmol said he had never spoken to the women before October 28th, the night of the alleged kidnapping.  He said he gave her a ride home from a party and only learned of the charges from a radio broadcast. Marmol is part of a civil case brought by the woman, which went to a higher court last Friday and his attorney’s filed a countersuit to prove it was a blackmail attempt.

“I didn’t do anything,” Marmol said to the Chicago Tribune. “The stuff that she says is not true, and I proved it… It is about the money.  The first thing, when they went to the police, they asked about money right away. I know I didn’t do anything. “They tried to make me scared,” he said. “They were going to (ruin) my reputation in baseball. The easy way is to (make a claim) and then I’d give them money. But I’m not going to give them money because I didn’t do anything.

Marmol, 30, saved 20 games in 23 chances last season with a 3.42 ERA, 72 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings.
