UPDATE: HardballTalk.com’s Craig Calcaterra reports a Major League Baseball source said the league will investigate Curt Schillings claim yesterday that a Red Sox employee told him he should use performance-enhancing drugs to help recover from a shoulder injury in 2008.

Curt Schilling said in an interview with ESPN Radio on Wednesday that members of the Boston Red Sox urged him to use performance enhancing drugs in 2008, the last year of his career in which he never ended up playing because of shoulder surgery before spring training.

Schilling, 46, said the conversations took place in the clubhouse and that members of the Red Sox organization, who are no longer there, had said to him that the PEDs might be a path he should pursue because he had nothing to lose at that point in his career.

Schilling called the discussion an “incredibly uncomfortable conversation” and said it could be overheard by a number of his teammates:

“At the end of my career, in 2008 when I had gotten hurt, there was a conversation that I was involved in, in which it was brought to my attention that this is a potential path I might want to pursue. [I]t was an incredibly uncomfortable conversation. Because it came up in the midst of a group of people. The other people weren’t in the conversation but they could clearly hear the conversation. And it was suggested to me that at my age and in my situation, why not? What did I have to lose? Because if I wasn’t going to get healthy, it didn’t matter. And if I did get healthy, great…It caught me off guard, to say the least. That was an awkward situation.”

Schilling officially retired in March 2009 after a career in which he was a six-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion including one World Series MVP in 2001.

Still blaming others for your problems Curt.  By the way did you ever find those investors that flubbed your 38 Studios?

Are ya sure they didn't say corticosteroids, which is really nice for injury recovery.  One shot of that stuff bought my shoulder back around!

Can anyone believe anything Curt Shilling says ?

Take the Red Sox trophies away since we know Manny was on something back then.  What's up with this town?? First spygate and now this?  Philadelphia is called the city of brotherly love and Boston should be called the city of cheating sports teams!!

How the mighty have fallen. This once a legendary hero in Boston will become nothing but a pariah the instant he uttered his blame. It's an obvious and pathetic attempt to save some semblance of dignity for his misguided ego. Couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow.

Hmm so you mean that Boston team in the early to mid 2000s composed of what looked like NFL linebackers wasn't just a coincidence?  And yes the Yankees were almost as bad as well.

Curt Schilling called Jose Conseco a "liar" when Jose revealed that a large number of major league players were using PEDs.  Everyone, with the exception of Congress, knew that he was the one who was lying.  He has absolutely no credibility.

Ah, but he who is quick to condemn the Bronx Bombers is now snitching on his own team? Nice job Curt.  You screwed the state of Rhode Island, now you want to screw your teammates. Flaming azz hole.

maybe the conversation should have been about how not to blow $40 million on some stupid gaming idea. This guy is such a tool. Why do we keeping quoting him and asking him questions? Nobody cares what this blow hard thinks about anything

What problem is he blaming on anyone here?

@Ledzep069 Haha, really?  Because the Sox are the only WS champs with juicers on it? Hell, they'd have to take away everyone's trophies and wipe the slate clean.

@Gardner Curt Schilling may be a jerk for multiple reasons, but he did not screw the state of Rhode Island.   Blame for that fiasco goes to the politicians and bureaucrats that were so giddy to do business with a local hero that they gave his company millions to relocate, obviously not bothering to do any due diligence on the entire project.   This is another sterling example of why having the dolts at various levels of government "manage" our economy is an extremely bad idea.

@mcurleyjr If you did not care, you would not write a post telling us that you do not care.   Why do you guys get so worked up over subjects that you do not like?  Just ignore them and move on.

@JoeCabot  @mcurleyjr Gee, Joe, maybe he really doesn't care what Schilling thinks and commented because he cares that weak minded people do. Do you care what Schilling thinks, Joe? Because while I think he was a pretty good ballplayer, and great at times, he blathers on like a fool on many issues.

mcurleyjr

@JoeCabot why don't you just ignore my comment and move, because I wasn't talking to you or us, as you put it. Get a life instead of commenting on other people's comments. That's why they have a comment section, to make comments

@stabmasterarson21  I will take my chances with the capitalists versus the politicians.   Excepting, of course, those like Goldman who have a direct pipeline to congress & the White House.

@cborgia  Yes, I am sure that he was thinking of the weak minded folks.  How did I miss that?   While I don't care what Curt Schilling thinks, it is always amusing/interesting to hear from these guys after they have had the spotlight taken off of them or found some failure in their lives after a solid career.  Now CS seems to be stirring the pot again as he is prone to do.  The guy definitely likes to hear his own voice.

@mcurleyjr  And I did not realize that you were going to stalk my comment about your comment.   You want to do this all evening?  Remember, I don't have a life so I'm all in.    And all this over you just having to write a post about Curt Schilling telling us that you don't like to talk about Curt Schilling.

@ohmy @JoeCabot I have nothing to get over just made a comment about Schilling. Didn't realize some d-bag was going to stalk my comment.

@ohmy  @mcurleyjr Agreed, but I like the give & take with those who don't like the way I post & tell me so by doing the same thing that I am doing.

@mcurleyjr  Nope, I have nothing better to do with my life except to comment on someone's comments.  You know, like you are doing.

@JoeCabot and for someone who comments about me commenting you would think you would have something better else to do, but obviously you don't. So get a life, thanks

@mcurleyjr  And I made a comment.  About your comment.  For someone that supposedly does not care about anything to do with Curt Schilling, you sure are spending a lot of time around an article about him.
