While making public remarks to a forum in Italy, AC Milan vice president Paolo Berlusconi used a racist slur to describe newly acquired forward Mario Balotelli.

At a campaign meeting, Berlusconi referred to Balotelli as “n——- di famiglia,” which translates to “our household’s little n—er,” according to the International Business Times. Balotelli, who is black, scored twice against Udinese in his debut with the team on Sunday.

Paolo, who is the publisher of the right-wing newspaper Il Giornale and head of investment group Paolo Berlusconi Finanziaria, made the remark during the installation of Fabrizio Sala as candidate for Silvio’s People of Freedom party in Lombardy.

At the end of his speech, he invited his audience to go and watch Mario Balotelli, the 22-year-old striker signed last week by Silvio’s AC Milan, play his first match against Udinese.

“Let’s go and watch our household’s little n—-r [playing],” he said to laughter.

“The girls here are all invited as well. They can have the chance to meet with Silvio Berlusconi.”

BTW I am a fluent Italian speaker who is also an Italian citizen, not sure who else commenting here can actually speak the language.  And I have no tolerance for racism, so if this was a slur I would be the first out here slamming whoever said something.  But this isn't the case people.

Totally misreported.  The translation is not what is represented above.  He said, "lets go see the black sheep of the family play, that hothead".  There is no racism involved here, he is talking about Balotelli's reputation as being the member of the family who always gets into trouble (which he does) and has a bit of a temper that gets him in trouble on the field (which it does).

The translations in these stories are made up to create a story that does not exist.

Never thought I would defend a Berlusconi as I hate that whole family, but this whole story is BS and making fools of "reporters"  & "media" who keep re-running it without doing some simple fact checking.

All the public efforts to combat racism seem to fall a little flat when 'men' of responsibility make such ignorant comments. As usual, with statements like this, the speaker is the one exposed as a fool.

And the rest of the world thinks the US is the only country capable of immeasurable ignorance.

it's ironic that the rest of Europe used to refer to Italians with the same terms.

You normally don't associate classless behavior with Berlusoconi. Funny how racism seems ingrained in those on the far right.

I imagine Balotelli will be kicking more than soccer balls soon.

I can see why that drew some laughs. Classic!
