The Los Angeles Clippers have contacted the Boston Celtics about a possible trade for forward Kevin Garnett, The Sporting News’ Sean Deveney reported on Sunday. Citing multiple sources, Deveney reported that the Clippers’ offer would center on second-year guard Eric Bledsoe and veteran forward Caron Butler.

The report came as the Celtics beat the Clippers 106-104 in Boston on Sunday, the Celtics’ fourth straight victory since losing star point guard Rajon Rondo for the rest of the season. The Clippers also played without their star point guard in the loss — Chris Paul missed his seventh straight game with a bruised right knee cap.

Any deal would have to be completed by the Feb. 21 trade deadline. It would represent a major push by the Clippers to contend at the top of the Western Conference, while the Celtics would signal that they are ready to rebuild away from a long-time core that includes both Garnett and Paul Pierce.

Aside from Paul, the Clippers have also been hampered by injuries to guard Chauncey Billups and forward Jamal Crawford. Still, they sit third in the Western Conference even after Sunday’s loss, four games behind the San Antonio Spurs.

The Celtics remain comfortably in the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference at 24-23 after their four-game winning streak. In addition to Rondo, they also lost rookie big man Jared Sullinger for the season last week.

Garnett has a no trade clause in his contract. This article is poorly researched and reflects badly on Sports Illustrated.

By the way I DO dislike the Celtics, with as I said, the exception of Rondo. And that should in no way signify any form of ignorance. Maybe except maybe to the ignorant.  I don't give a rats behind what KG has done in the past. His record speaks for itself.  I don't hate anyone. Hate is a big word, takes too much energy and life is too short for that waste of time. I just don't think the Clippers need KG and to give up the  players mentioned would be a huge mistake.  KG is getting old simply put. Damn the locker room argument too. They have Billups for that. Also Jw, I've been a huge basketball fan probably long before you were wearing pampers.... So just keep your BS.. Opinions are like a..holes, everybody's got one. I got mine you got yours but for you to attempt denigrate me because I don't particularly care for your beloved Celtics well, the darkside is awaiting your lips.  With that said I will agree with you on the subject of the Clippers bench.

not happening

1) no trade clause and KG wouldnt go to the Clippers anyway. He came back to play for Doc Rivers and along side his friends, Rondo and Pierce.

2) Ainge isnt trading KG or Pierce, he knows when they do make the playoffs, those 2 will carry the team as far as it can go.

3) The clippers have more depth than any team in the NBA, and the best bench, well until they met Jeff Green and the celtics bench, if the clippers cant own the West with the roster they have then they dont deserve to be in the finals.

The Celtics are NOT going to trade Kevin Garnett.  Danny Ainge is not about to dismantle the C's, due to Rondo's injury.  Look for Ainge to find a replacement PG and make the best of the situation in 2013.

The rumors are just that....no substance to them

Don't need him or what he brings

Don't do it!  Why get rid of Garnett for 2 guards/small forwards when your biggest is and has always been length?

Why not talk to the Lakers about Pau?  He's in the same building and would love to play team ball.

Dumb ass idea. Garnett would be a cancer to this ball club. Plus he and Blake literally hate each other. Clippers don't need nothing from Boston.. The whole team suck ..with the exception of Rondo.

anyone who says they wouldnt need KG doesnt know basketball. Dont have to like him to know he is a proven Superstar.

thought u just hated the celtics which i guess excuses your ignorance. KG is a top 20 scorer in the NBA. Dont get me wrong i like the clippers but give credit where its due. Nobody on that team can hope to have the accomplishments that KG has had in his career. Besides Blake could learn alot on defense.

@triple x remember, Odom and Blake also hated each other one time but Odom had to go back to LA and suck it up because his wife was bitching about being in Dallas

What team has KG ever been more than their best Defensive player locker room leader motivator and great teammate? NONE

so why would he be that way on any new team.
