Report: Tim Tebow won’t be released, Jets seeking trade

The New York Jets will not release Tim Tebow outright and will instead seek a trade partner for the quarterback, according to a report from Adam Schefter at ESPN.

This, despite reports that few if any teams in the league are interested in taking on the former NCAA national champion. In Schefter’s report, one NFL general manager is quoted as saying that “I think his career is over without playing another position.”

Tebow featured in just a handful of offensive plays for the Jets this season after being traded from the Denver Broncos.

Pretty incredible to think that his career could actually be over if he's ultimately unwilling to completely switch positons, but the truth is that reality is likely no more than a year away if indeed that point hasn't already been arrived at.  Laughable for the Jets to have proclaimed at any point that he absolutely wouldn't be released, but one way or the other he won't be in their uniform going forward.

Who is going to trade for Tebow???

The Jets are so hapless, they're likely stuck with Tebow AND Sanchez next year. My four year old neighbor could run a team better than the current NY brain trust.

The Jets are desperate and deluded. They will end up cutting Tebow before they have to pay him. And every team in the league knows that - so none will give up so much as a used jock strap for a guy who will be a free agent soon.

The New York Jets are stuck with Tim Tebow...that is if they are 'ell bent on trading this dude.  Tebow will not agree to play H-Back, as he wants to play Quarterback.  Therefore, he will be poison in the locker room. Every GM is keenly aware of this, especially in light of the debacle that took place with the J-E-T-S in 2012.

The Jets can either cut bait with Tebow, by releasing him OR they can have him on the roster for 2013.  No team is going to trade for Tebow, knowing that Tebow will refuse to change positions.

I would like him to be traded to the Steelers or the Eagles.

I'd love to see Tebow come to San Fran... *IF* he would make a position change to H-back.  Line him up instead of Walker as the second tight end, let him run the ball out of some Wildcat formations, have him as a threat to perhaps throw the ball every now and then.  He's a great athlete, and would make a really nice tight end/H-back.

I'm sure that he wouldn't do it, but if he would...

Tebow had a good record in Denver, but the fact the tea which drafted him and the team which traded for him had/have no confidence in Tebow says a lot.  Tebow can have a good NFL career at tight end or fullback, and he can be an emergency/4th string QB.  Sometimes sacrifices are necessary.  Does Tim love football only if he plays QB?

Should we now compare Tebow to Kaepernick.  K has all the numbers but his eyes many times are as big as silver dollars.  Also don't see a positive attitude coming from him and trying to inspire and will his team to win.  Something Tebow is great at.  So much for numbers.   T.T. may not be a QB but at least he know's how and what it takes to win.  K on the other hand is clueless.

The only difference between the Tebow worshippers and the JoePologists is that Tebow is still alive and Paterno is dead.

If the Jets don't sucker somebody into giving them a 6th or 7th round draft choice, they will release him.

He was a locker room distraction and cancer all season, and they will dump him right after the draft at the latest.

He's not even a viable backup QB in their eyes, and isn't worth the grief as an h-back or fullback.

The coach that drafted Tebow in the CFL for Montreal is now the Coach for the Chicago Bears! I think the Bears may want to use him in a Wildcat package, as a Full Back or a Tight End while they develop him at QB. Real football guys like Belichick, Josh McDaniels, the Grudens, and the two Harbaughs love character football players like Tebow and they will create a position for him.

The hard true is that this young man was taken for a ride.  I know this is a business and people evidently don't count.  If i was a Jet fan, which i am not, and will never be i would question the moral behind the way they, in part, ruin the career of Mr. Tebow.  Maybe, just maybe, there is still an organization out there that can see a little further ahead than just business and picks him up....he will probably surprise everyone.  God Bless you Mr. Tebow.

Tim Tebow would be valuable to any team that is short of self-important, self-promoting, locker room cancer jackholes.

Otherwise, it will be hard to get good value for a guy who spends more time practicing his look-at-me posing than 'quarterback stuff' like accuracy, quick release, or reading defenses.

RichieV
RichieV

The Jets are not a smart organization. If they wanted to get value for Tebow they shouldn't have stumbled all over them selves saying "We didn't want him here" and "Blaming" the former general manager for bringing him in.

When you are trying to trade something you need to show it has value. Showcasing Tebow in the final two meaningless games would have been a great way to do that.

Telling everyone how bad he is, then saying, so what will you give me for him? Is the worst salesmanship I have seen in a long time.

Dallas has long been criticized for not securing a strong backup to Romo, who needs someone breathing down his back. Could Tebow be the answer?

@jgogto1960 Jacksonville's new GM said "he can not think of any scenario in which Tim Tebow would be a Jacksonville Jaguar".

That stunned the reporter so much that he asked the GM to repeat himself.

@bigdadfla  Great point...Tebow is clearly a better QB than Manning because Tebow won a playoff game against an old beat up Steelers team.  Clearly Denver should have kept Tebow because he prays during games instead of dissecting film and picking defenses apart.  You make a strong argument, but I will have to say winning 13 games in the regular season will trump a wild card playoff win. And ultimately they both made it to the same point in the playoffs.  The biggest difference between the two (and this might be hard for you to understand) is that Manning knows how to be a QB and can hit his WRs on a 12 yard slant.  Tebow can't complete a 12 yard pass if his life depended on it.  Get over your love affair with Tebow, he sucks as a QB and both the Broncos and the Jets and every other team in the NFL are better off without him.

 @SteveRowFla

Steve - You're wrong here.  The real difference between the 2 and has nothing to do with worshiping either is:

Tim Tebow - he's not hiding his life in a closet and pretending to be somone he's not.

JoePa - on the other hand thought he was GOD, treated like a GOD and in the end, well to be nice here, I believe we all know how his legacy and story ended.

 @Jimatmad

I"m a JETS fan and he was only a distraction and cancer to his coach and the "OTHER QB" who can't play QB either.  If the other QB supposedly can read defenses, why does he consistantly throw the ball to the other team?  Because he's not a QB either.  Everyone is constantly ripping Tebow & can't understand why M.S. isn't receiving the same exposure.  FYI - there are many players in all of sports who are terrible practise players.  Come game time though, whole different story.  He's still young enough to take a chance on.  I think if a team were to give him 2 years, work with him extensively year round, then make a decision at that time.  He has a great work ethic & committment but he needs an organization to make the same commitment to him.  It's either going to work or it isn't.  I think he deserves a fair shot with serious backing & commitment from whatever team he ends up with.  In closing, the biggest distraction to the team since his arrival is the coach.  He alone causes more turmoil on the team then any of it's players combined.

SteveRowFla
SteveRowFla

@AlanManning He's number 2 in the NFL general managers' books, and I'm talking about the smelly kind...

SteveRowFla
SteveRowFla

@Miguel R Get real.  If you get paid, you agree to get on the ride.  He wasn't taken anywhere.  The fact is, people who know football have determined he isn't sufficiently accurate to play qb in the NFL.  The only games he won were comebacks against the prevent defense.  He can't throw against man to man.  It's nothing against him, God or you, Miguel.  He just isn't good enough.

SteveRowFla
SteveRowFla

@Jimatmad But he loves Jesus!  That means the NFL teams should all pay him, right?!

John Harbaugh even brought in a football guy in Juan Castillo when Reid was forced to let him go!

Jimatmad

@RonViramontes If he thinks Tim Tebow is the answer, Jerry Jones doesn't understand the question. That's precisely why Dallas is one of the few US teams that might bring him in as a QB.

@anthrojim  @jgogto1960 I'd surmise the reporter was stunned just as Jax fans were stunned because the new GM just threw a massive influx of new revenue into the fire when he uttered those words.  Jacksonville is an NCAA town despite the Jags.  Locals are more invested in the Gators, Seminoles, and Bulldogs, than the Jags, to bridge the gap and have such a monumental incentive for a lackluster fan base to become more invested in the local NFL team is nothing but positive for the Jags, not to mention that Tebow is a local boy here as well.  After the season they just had, it could not possibly be any worse.  Tebow took the Broncos further into the playoffs than Manning,  with his sheer grit and determination of heart, rather than Manning's style of finessed passing game.   Maybe the Jags will make a surprise trade during the year, but I wouldn't waste any more time on hope for the Jags.

@Yankee0359  @Jimatmad "I"m a JETS fan and he was only a distraction and cancer to his coach and the "OTHER QB" who can't play QB either."  Pretty sure Tebow isn't the cancer to his coach, but his coach is the cancer to the NFL.

@SteveRowFlaI respect your opinion but that is what is wrong, it cannot be all business, this young man could have been a "player", but the Jets decided when they acquired him that it was all a PR move....anyway what is done is done...i will pray that there is a team owner out there with some "heart" that will give this young man another real chance....

@MrWaffles  @anthrojim  @jgogto1960 First he did NOT take the Broncos further into the playoffs. They reached the same spot/game, just this year they EARNED a bye to get there last year they had to win a Wild Card game to get there.

I think its obvious you are both a Tebow fan & a Jag fan (or non-fan but resident). This means I have to help you see outside those Tebow glasses. They got to the playoffs at 8-8. Couldn't have done that this year AND they won on the strength of the defense not the offence last year.

They got SMOKED in the Divisional Round last year by NE. This year it wasn't the offense that failed to move them to the Conference Championship it was the D giving up that last play hail mary pass IN THE SAME DIVISIONAL ROUND.

When people like you say they made it further last year it just goes to show how little ACTUAL NFL knowledge they have.

@pval  @RichieV  @SteveRowFla  @AlanManning pval pretty much said it all. However when evaluating TT compare his numbers to CK this year. And CK was replacing a guy who just went what was it 18 of 19 in his previous game? Kapernick had better stats across the board, BY FAR and he was in the EXACT same position at TT.

Also can't use better coaching excuse because same coaches with Peyton went 13-3 (.813) not 8-5 (.615) and the teams TT faced had an overall lower winning percentage than the Broncos faced for this full season.

He is mobile but not terrifically fast, RGIII, Luck, Newton, Kapernick & Wilson all faster. Teams are starting to catch up to the zone read/read option its just RGIII & Kap are so quick.

As a passer he is highly erratic. An NFL QB I remember occasionally being erratic too was McNabb, hitting the ground a yard in front of the receiver on a 10yd out BUT he was significantly more accurate than TT as you can see by their completion %. Beyond the zone/read he has a difficult time deciphering defenses as does M.S. which is why the Jets should cut both.

Tebow is the Crouch of our generation with a better back story and this is what drives the devotion to him.

pval
pval

 @RichieV  @SteveRowFla  @AlanManning

Yeah, he is not Wilson.

Or Luck...

Or Cam Newton...

Or RGIII...

Or Kaepernick...

Or even Tannehill...

The notion that teams should,  as a rule,  give two or three seasons of play for a rookie QB so that he MAY improve, has been invalidated by free agency.

Why should a team "pay" for a QB's education if they face losing the guy after the process ?

And now the college game seems to churn out some very NFL ready QBs.

So now it's may be a season at starter  for your young QB trial, and that's pretty much it.

Tebow has got his chance : didn't convince the league he could a reliable starter.

What else is there to say?

RichieV
RichieV

@SteveRowFla  @AlanManning The reason his completion rating was so low was because it was his first year being "The Starter" he was going through the growing pains all young QB's go through, learning to read defenses, Making quick throws (instead of holding onto it too long) and dealing with the blitz.

People act as if he won't improve between the first year of being a teams starter and the second year. Not every young QB is a Wilson or Luck.

SteveRowFla
SteveRowFla

@RichieV  @AlanManning It has nothing to do with hating him.  It has to do with facts.  The reason his completion percentage in the first 58 minutes of games is historically low is because he can't read defenses and he isn't accurate.  I'm not the one who has determined that - it's the people who write checks.  If you want him in the NFL, you're going to have to put your money where your mouth is and pay him.

RichieV
RichieV

@SteveRowFla  @AlanManning I really wouldn't get into this discussion with Steve,

Tebow haters are like those people who believe the world is flat, no amount of facts will change their mind.

8-5 including a playoff win is believing in a fact not wearing rose colored glasses. Hell, Tebow has as many playoff wins as Matt Ryan and Tebow did it with an 8-8 team. Matt Ryan needed a 13-3 to get that first playoff win.

SteveRowFla
SteveRowFla

@AlanManning It's not my book or your book that matters.  It's the checkbook of NFL owners.  None are willing to pay him to be their qb, because he can only complete passes against prevent defenses late in games.  The NFL is a man to man league and he isn't accurate enough.  Take off the rose colored glasses.
