Joe Flacco and his representatives believe that he is playing better than Peyton Manning and deserves a bigger contract extension from the Baltimore Ravens, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday.

According to Pro Football Talk, Manning makes $19.2 million per season. That means that, as ESPN.com’s John Clayton reported Monday, Flacco will seek a contract that rivals Drew Brees’ at $20 million per season.

As he gears up for Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, Flacco faces impending unrestricted free agency in the offseason. The Ravens would almost certainly use their franchise tag on him. The tentative franchise-tag salary for quarterbacks is $14.642 million next season.

Statistically, Flacco didn’t quite have the best season of his career in 2012. But he did lead the Ravens to a 10-6 record and three straight playoff wins to earn his team a Super Bowl appearance.

The 28-year-old Flacco had an 87.7 quarterback rating this season, throwing 22 touchdowns to only 10 interceptions. He has had a superb postseason, throwing eight touchdowns and zero interceptions in the three games. However, none of his regular-season stats — touchdowns, yards, quarterback rating or completion percentage — put him among the top 10 NFL quarterbacks in those respective categories.

Well, he has won as many Super Bowls as Manning and is younger. So, it might not be a bad idea. Flacco is not Hollywood by any means, but he was HUGE in the postseason. I guess if you have a QB that can deliver a ring, you keep him. I would rather have him than Brady, that guy hasn't won a ring since they got caught cheating.

First let the world see if Joe can carry a team for most of the season and to a Super Bowl title.  Then decide if he is worth that much of the Salary Cap.

Flacco is having an amazing playoff run, but his track record simply shows that's just a decent QB. You have to have a Peyton Manning or Drew Brees crendentials to $20M/yr contract. He's dreaming...

I'm from Baltimore and a Raven's fan, there is no way Joe is worth 20 million. He is in no way in the same league as Brady, Manning, Brees. I know he won three post season games, but did you see him play in the regular season, he did not look good. He needs a couple more years to prove he can play at a high level all season. If they give him 20 million they are fools.

If the guy wants that much money, expect to have a mediocre team of misfits around him. Aside from not being worth a max contract, he's setting himself and the team up for failure. The Ravens draft incredibly well and if they're paying Flacco a boatload of money that means once a rookie contract is done they can't afford to pay a second contract. Thus they will a) replace a guy who performed well and has an NFL future with a new draftee b) replace that guy with a risky bargain free agent. That's no way to build a sustainable franchise.

The reason Brady wins and the Pats seem to always have flexibility with paying their draft picks or free agency is because key players like Brady take smaller contracts to build better teams around them.

There's no way he should get this contract. Flacco only threw 22 TD's in 2012 and has never won a Super Bowl. This would make Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers, the 3 TOP QB's in the NFL less paid than Joe.

2008-2012 Stats (5 Seasons)Flacco 17,633 Yards 102 TD's and 56 INT'sBrady 18,436 Yards 137 TD's and 37 INT's (Brady Missed the 2008 Season)Rodgers 21,332 Yards 170 TD's and 45 INT'sManning 17,861 Yards 130 TD's and 56 INT's (Manning missed the 2011 Season)

Look at the STATS and you tell me if Flacco Deserves to be the Number 2 paid QB in the League.

Here's another stat: Brady averages 12-13 Wins a season

Rodgers averages 11-12 Wins a seasonManning averages 12-13 Wins a seasonFlacco averages 10-11 Wins a season

Here's what the list should look like for top 5 paid QB's (Based on Peyton's $19.6 Million a season) 1) Tom Brady $20,000,0002) Peyton Manning $19,600,0003) Aaron Rodgers $18,500,0004) Eli Manning $16,750,0005) Matt Ryan $15,750,000

theres no football player worth that much money.thats what gets me really mad, most all of them play for the money.theres one man that plays for the love of the game.his name is Tim Tebow he has all heart more lots more than most guys playing.but yet no one gives him a chance to show what he can do.he has done so much for the broncos but yet they black balled him cause hes the most popular player and for that they get jealous of him.GO TIM TEBOW

@M as in Mancy Key players like Brady take smaller contracts? You do know Brady is also getting paid $18 mil a year?

@KevinHernandez Stats, stats and stats.  Waah! You criticize Flacco yet  you annoint Matt Ryan as a top 5 QB? You also mentioned regular season wins but you fail to mention post season wins.  You sir, is an idiot!

@rico  @KevinHernandez Wins are team wins and losses are team losses. Google Flacco's stats in "his" postseason wins and you'll find that for many years they won in spite of him, not because of him. A great stat line in a loss isn't going to impress casual fans or make a guy a legend, but it's more leverage for bargaining than terrible play in a victory.

You butchered basic grammar in your clever insult. Let me know how that works out for you. Forrest Gump would say: stupid is as stupid does.

@rico  I'm going to stop and let you dig yourself out of this hole. Yep, you're welcome

@M as in Mancy Brady is a bargain? Please spare me.  You add up his contract through the years + signing bonus and it comes up to the same hugh $$$.

M as in Mancy
M as in Mancy

@ricoSigning bonuses are pro-rated through the life of the contract. So that would make Flacco's cap number even higher through the life of his contract. Regardless, at $6.5M Brady is a bargain.

Sincerely, Research

@M as in Mancy The word is "RESTRUCTURED!" Yes, he was only making $6.5M but you failed to mention the he received a signing bonus of $14.5m the same year!

Winning in a team sport requires a team effort based upon individual performances. Contract negotiations are for individuals, not teams. That's where Flacco's infidvidual stats come in.

In the public the QB gets a disproportionate amount of credit and blame. A smart team doesn't fall trap to that in contract bargaining. Winning is great, but ask NFL GMs what David Tyree is up to now.

That's the point the original guy was making: individual performance counts and Flacco's doesn't merit an enormous contract.

@M as in Mancy proved  your point? didn't  you get what i said? football is a team sport.  Not individual stats.  Then again, that's probably how you play sports.  Trying to get busy keeping up with your individual stats instead of winning.

@M as in Mancy so you ran out of your pathetic research and try to be mother theresa??? buwahahaha! one suggestion for you...KNOW YOUR STUFF!

@rico  Another botched insult. Not really a grammar guy, but I figure that if you're going to insult someone, you probably want to be competent at English. It's as easy as putting on your pants. My question to you is: who's putting on your pants?

@M as in Mancy  @KevinHernandez Come to think of it how stupid you sounded then we might as well say Tom Brady won all those Superbowls and lets just take away all the rings they gave to the defensive players.

rico
rico

@M as in Mancy  @KevinHernandez Win not because of him? Are you that stupid? Football is not basketball! Football is a team sports.  You cannot say you won the game because of one specific person!

@M as in Mancy  @KevinHernandez M, if you worry so much about grammar then you don't belong in a forum! Go take some literature classes! Then again, you will probably fail since you don't do enough research and that makes  you and idiot too!
