Report: Lovie Smith plans to sit out 2013 season

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that former Bears head coach Lovie Smith will take off 2013 and return in 2014. Although the Saints and Eagles both have defensive coordinator openings that he could fill, Smith said he plans to take off 2013 and return to head coaching in 2014.
Smith spent nine years as the Bears’ head coach, compiling an 84-66 regular season record that includes three NFC North championships and one trip to the Super Bowl. Smith will be 56 years old when the 2014 season starts, and hopes to do what Jeff Fisher did–Fisher took a year off in 2011 and then took a head coaching position with the Rams in 2012.
Even with openings for DC jobs in Philadelphia and New Orleans, Lovie Smith plans to sit out this year and hopes to return as an HC in 2014.—

The man took Rex Grossman to a SuperBowl. He deserves another head coaching gig.

LikeKeep waiting Lovie. Its time you contemplate your strengths and weaknesses and stick to what you know best aka being a defensive coordinator.

Likeluvfoozball If Fisher got a HC job, so can Smith! Fisher, like Smith, led a team to the SB, but did not win.
