The Memphis Grizzlies traded power forward Marresse Speights, point guard Josh Selby, shooting guard Wayne Ellington and a future draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers for seldom used power forward Jon Leuer, Yahoo! Sports reports.

The deal potentially saves the Grizzlies more than $6 million and takes them below the luxury tax threshold. The trade could mean that forwards Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph will not be traded. The NBA’s trading deadline is Feb. 21.

Speights could veto the trade because of the Bird rights clause, which allows teams to go over their payroll maximums. Speights, a former first-round pick in 2008, averages 6.6 points and 4.7 rebounds a game.

Ellington is in the final year of his deal and will make $2 million this season. Selby has played in 10 games this season for the Grizzles, who are 26-14 and 4th in the Western Conference standings.

Leuer has only played in nine games this season for the Cavs and averages less than three points a game.

Selby is the ideal example of "you shoulda stayed in college".

As a Rockets fan I'm disappointed to see this as it means they likely aren't shopping Randolph now.  But, for the sake of basketball I'm glad they're going to be able to keep the core together given they were bad for so long.  Good move.
