Alvin Gentry fired by Suns

NBA

The Phoenix Suns are officially on the hunt for a new head coach. Fox10′s Juda LaCava first reported on Twitter that the Suns parted company with Alvin Gentry, the team’s head coach for the past four seasons.

Gentry took over the Suns on an interim basis in the middle of the 2008-2009 season after Terry Porter was fired. Gentry had previously been an assistant coach under Porter as well as Mike D’Antoni, the man Porter succeeded in the post. Gentry’s firing ends an 11 year relationship with the Suns organization, having been hired as D’Antoni’s assistant in 2002.

The Suns have struggled mightily under Gentry this season, going 13-28, good for last place in the Pacific Division.

Poor Gentry is Sarvers scape goat.  Now expect to hear more stories about how a new coach will find out how to get Beasley to not be a failure.  Wtf is wrong with Sarver, Lon Babby and that other guy thinking Beasley was their go to signing this last summer?

The idea that Gentry and the Suns parted by mutual agreement makes me think this piece should have a different headline. .  Shouldn't it really say, "Alvin Tires of Firing Babby's Blanks!" or "Sarver Again Shows Strength of Resolve."  It is clear that Lon Babby, Lance Blanks and Bob Sarver are the Three Musketeers when it comes to believing the talent on the Suns is NBA competitive.  And, when one month ago Robert Sarver said Alvin Gentry would remain the coach of the Suns through the end of the season, this quote must have been taken out of context.  I'm sure he went on to say, "So long as he remains a good puppet and does as I say."   Finally, to all of those who wanted the Suns to bottom out and rebuild through the draft: Your wish is granted.  Just remember who will be doing the drafting.
