Report: Jerry Jones wants Jason Garrett to stop calling plays, fire brother John

Can someone please ask Jerry Jones, what is the number? How many years before he hires a GM and let's the coach, coach the team without interference? He made his comment in 1993 after winning back to back Super Bowls about "500 coaches doing the same thing". We've now gone 17 years without a Super Bowl or even a NFC Championship run, SO, what is the number? 20 years? 25 years? How long before he hires a GM and let's them do their job?

garrett can't coach a lick---but, jerry likes low paid gofers so he will not fire him.  jerry makes millions if the team sucks or not---the money just keeps rolling in!!!

Reading all the comments posted and watching this season has led me to definitely  to believe that the sport of football is all about the commercial value of the team and not what the team can actually do.  Its all about how many fans can the team bring into the seats and how much in merchandise can be sold on and off season?  Its just a number now and not about the fans or the teams.   JJ wants Garrett to stop calling the plays because plain and simple JJ wants to call the plays and make the decisions for his own over-glorified self... But in retrospect JJ needs to get that 10-foot pole out of his backside and let the right people do their own jobs instead of causing mayhem and irritation.

Jerry Jones looks rediculous at spring training with his coaches outfit and whistle around his neck.  He is a joke.  He needs to go ahead and coach the team to last place and get it out of his system.  He makes me want to go outside and vomit.....

Florio's assertion is ridiculous. Why would Jerry Jones care what anybody thinks about firing his HC?  Missing the playoffs three years in a row is plenty of excuse for the boot in today's WIN NOW league.  Blown leads & 4th qtr meltdowns have eroded the owner's confidence in his offensive guru.  Jerry wants Garrett to be the sideline VP on gameday and allow someone else to run the offense from the booth. Perfectly reasonable.  Swallow the humble pie and be glad you still have a job, Jason.

Jerry Jones nicknamed the Cowboys "America's Team". What a joke and so is Jones! They'll never be a contender anymore as long as Jones "thinks" he can coach/run that team.

Jerry Jones is the problem in Dallas and has been since the day he bought the team. No coach will ever be effective in the Big D because JJ stands over the shoulder of every coach he hires and dictates what he wants done. He has never allowed the coaches to do their jobs and he interferes with and hinders every coach he hires. Jones needs to hire an actual GM and be a silent entity.

He should agree if JJ fires himself as GM and also fires his son, LOL.

The problem isn't Garrett, or Romo, or Ryan.  The problem starts at the top with a man named Jerry.  He just doesn't know pro football enough to make personnel decisions.  He never has.  The team won on Jimmy Johnson's talent for a few years after he left, but it all started down hill for the 'Boys when Johnson was forced out by Jerry's huge ego.  I think the 'Boys are done as a serious contender, no matter who they bring in talent or coach wise, until Jones wakes up and brings in a true GM and actually gives him/her power to run the team.  

Jerry is the best GM in the league...Leave him alone..Look at his record..WoooHoooo.

I'd like Jerry to trade Romo and fire his GM. Neither one of those will happen either.

It's disappointing to me the G-Men missed the playoffs, but watching the annual Cowpats post-season circus always make me feel better.  Keep it up JJ!  You're the best thing that ever happened to the rest of the NFC East.

How do you know you don't have the right head coach? You want him to be less involved with the team.

This is not the way to run a football team.Everything Jones does is backhanded and would not sit well with the players. This is the way typical cut throat businessmen work, it rubs people the wrong way. I cannot see how doing things like this can make the players want to be a Dallas Cowboy. I can see it make them think more about themselves and their careers, less about the team. That is a recipe for a losing team. Jerry Jones is the problem but his ego will not let him admit it. He should fire himself, he's the one that made this roster.

This is getting more ridiculous by the day. While Garrett and Romo should be the scapegoats (can't include Jones because he will never admit it), if he wants the TE coach gone, he should damn well (excuse me) do it himself. He's the real head coach, anyway. Besides, why is the TE coach being held accountable? Whitten had one of the best years of his career. I am getting more and more sick of this man as I type this. 

Nothing for nothing, but Jason Garrett should be so thankful that he still has a job, that he should be firing his brother as we speak. So many problems with Dallas right now and of course Jones is the biggest. He should call Cowher and tell him that he is giving him total control, hire him and then butt out. He could be winning Super Bowls again, but proving that he knows football is more important. Ego.

No, Jerry's not right.  If he wants Jason Garrett to limit his play calling, then he should have a meeting with him to clarify the coaching structure with the Cowboys.  The meeting would include which plays would be called, and by whom.  There is no reason for such an internal decision to show up on si com.

As for Jason's brother, no problem.  Jerry Jones, you have made it clear since buying the team that is is "your way or the highway".  If you want John Garrett, the TE coach fired, then fire him.  You NEVER make one brother fire another.  That's not cool or professional.  Also, who is in charge here?  Since we all know the answer, Jerry, be a man and fire your TE coach if you don't want him as an assistant coach for your team.  See?  Simple, and no need for fanfare.  

For once Jerry is right. Garrett shouldn't call plays and he should can his brother who apparently is with Cowboys just because he's the HC's brother.
