The Chicago Bears have selected Canadian Football League coach Marc Trestman as their new head coach according to Fox Sports’ Jimmy Johnson via Twitter.

The Bears have not made an official announcement yet.

Trestman, 56, has been head coach of the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes for the past five years, winning two Grey Cups in three championship games.

His NFL resume includes stints teaching the West Coast offense as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Browns, Cardinals, Dolphins, 49ers, Lions, Raiders and Vikings.

Gawd, JJ is trying to promote himself through other's success.  "his guys"?  Marc qb'd the University of MN Gophers.  He had all sorts of assistant coaching jobs.  Get over yourself Jimmy.  You're breathing in too many hair spray fumes.

Jimmy only succeeded at the NFL level because of the stupidity of Mike Lynn, then-GM of the Vikings.  He gave away half of the team and most of the draft picks for coming years, for Herschel "the bobsledder" Walker.  Had that trade not happened, Jimmy would be combing his sticky hair by himself on Sundays, instead of having a hairdresser do it.

I wish the Vikes or Gophers could have lured Marc home.

This is the guy the RAIDERS should come after years ago!!!  Trestman will make the Bears an offensive nightmare for the rest of the league!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Fantastic choice! I'm fired up over this one! U guys like that 1995 49ers offense that ranked 1st in points per game? How bout that 2002 raiders super bowl team that led the NFL in total offense and passing yards? Or how about 3 grey cups in five years in Montreal? All Trestman baby!

I don't believe this tweet. There are still 3 more interviews scheduled to happen. Trestman was interviewed just once.

And nowhere does Johnson say that Trestman is getting the head coaching job - just an "NFL job."   Again, nice reporting SI.  Besides, I want McCoy for the Bears job.

deandiesin55 Ummm...  He said "Trestman to Chicago".  They ain't interviewing assistant coaches, they are interviewing head coaches.

Lord.Priapus.....I think the Colts and Bears will be battling over the best FA offensive linemen in a couple of months!

Good for offensive linemen bad for Colts and Bears salary cap dough!

SI has the gall to list this as a "REPORT" on their home page when it comes from an off the cuff tweet from Jimmy Johnson?  Didn't he have a tweet about Katherine Webb?  Yeesh, the Internet has some issues and journalism with integrity is one of the biggest.

luvfoozball Its not all that obvious when you consider that there are some very slow people like you on this message board.

While I am sure there will be a lot of ignorant comments about a CFL coach coming to the NFL (all the while forgetting Marv Levy) Trestman will do well in Chicago. He's been an excellent coach in the CFL, coming to a league with different football rules and becoming an instant success. He knows the NFL game and now knows how to be a championship caliber head coach.
