Now that the Jacksonville Jaguars are close to naming a new general manager in David Caldwell, head coach Mike Mularkey might be on his way out, reports CBSSports.com.

If Mularkey is let go, the favorite to take his place is San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Roman and Caldwell were roommates in the 1990s at John Carroll University in Ohio.

In Mularkey’s first season in Jacksonville, the Jaguars went 2-14. Mularkey has been a head coach in the NFL for a total of four seasons compiling a career record of 21-41.

If being someone's college roommate 20 years ago makes someone a head coaching "favorite", the NFL is a sad place to be...

The whole concept of "bringing in your own guy" is absolutely asinine. The reason teams get stuck in the bottom of the barrel is that inflexible mentality. Nobody embodies that stupidity more than the Cleveland Browns. Stop the coaching/player turnover and build teams the Bill Parcells way. A good LT, men who rush the passer, and nasty boys on both lines of scrimmage.
