The Chicago Bears will interview the Montreal Alouettes’ Marc Trestman of the Canadian Football League in search of their next head coach, reports NFL.com.

The Bears fired Lovie Smith last week after nine seasons. Smith’s teams only made the playoffs three times in his nine years.

Trestman, 56, has coached the Alouettes for the past five years leading the team to three Grey Cup appearances. The Alouettes won the Grey Cup in 2009 and 2010.  Trestman has NFL experience coaching various teams since 1985 before departing the Miami Dolphins in 2004 to become the offensive coordinator for North Carolina State.

People need to do a search on Marc Trestman and San Francisco forty niners.  I don't care how much more time he has spent in college ranks and the minor leagues.  he was hailed then for being really, really smart.  But he lost an amazing number of games and nearly got some of his best players killed with risky plays.

rmccafferty - Are you referring to 1995 when he took over as QB coach and Offensive coordinator of the 49ers and led them to being #1 in the league in points scored and passing yards. I guess you dont like being number #1 in the NFL in points scored? Or how about in 2002 when he took over as Oakland Raiders OC and led them to averaging an NFL high 389.8 yards per game and a super bowl appearance?

And that amazing number of games lost you were talking about...23 wins 9 losses over two seasons.

I wonder how often any NFL team looks seriously at CFL coaches. I don't recall hearing much about it at all. And judging from what the first two commenters saidit's past due.

Dear Chicago Fans,

The Montreal Alouettes of the last 15 seasons have been the greatest dynasty in recent CFL history.  Between 1999 and 2012, they annihilated the rest of the CFL during the regular season, en route to winning 10 of 14 Eastern Conference titles, and making an incredible eight Grey Cup appearances, winning three.

Prior to hiring Marc Trestman, Montreal was the team that came up short in the big dance every year, going 1-4 in Grey Cups.  Under Trestman Montreal has won two of three Grey Cup appearances.

In short, you can't go wrong with Trestman.

Seriously?
Seriously?

Seriously? As good as Marc Trestman is, I seriously doubt he will be able to replicate his success in NFL. He has been out of the football in the US that even a good college coach would be a much better hire. Don't care how well the Alouettes have done in the last 15 seasons. You are talking about an 8-team league and the Als have won the "Eastern" conference titles against 3 others teams. The Eastern conference is like the NFC West. One, maybe two good teams, and the rest sucks the rear end. In NFL, that would be winning a Division. The Bears want to win it all but Marc Trestman is not going to make that happen. I was sad to see Lovie Smith go but I am sure he will get hired sooner rather than later.

@therednorth1 That is honestly like bragging about being the smartest kid on the short bus. Sorry but I'd rather see Gruden.

@StephenKaufman Fine, don't get Trestman.  Urlacher is getting old so it's not the ideal situation to jump into anyways.  Enjoy rebuilding!

I'd  rather  see  Gruden  on  the  sidelines  also...that  way  I  wouldn't  have  to  turn  the  sound  down  on  MNF

Someone hire Marc Trestman already. This guy is an NFL calibre head coach.
