Reports: Andy Reid, Chiefs agree on contract
The Kansas City Chiefs have reached an agreement with Andy Reid to become the team’s next head coach, pending legal review, according to Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com.
The news follows Friday morning reports of the Chiefs parting ways with general manager Scott Pioli.
The Chiefs moved quickly to be the first team to interview Reid shortly after he was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 30 after 14 years with the team. The Cardinals and Chargers reportedly were also interested in Reid, but did not have the opportunity to interview him.
Reid is expected to have extensive power over the Chiefs’ football operations, and reportedly has already reached out to fired Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo, and has been rumored to have interest in bringing in a general manager or director of personnel. He has previously worked with fired Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert and Green Bay Packers director of operations John Dorsey.
