The San Francisco 49ers released running back Brandon Jacobs, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday, reports the Sacramento Bee.

The team suspended Jacobs for conduct detrimental to the team earlier this season when he made known on social media outlets that he was not happy about his lack of playing time and criticized the 49ers coaching staff.

Jacobs can not sign with another team for the playoffs and players that are claimed off waivers once the regular season ends are not assigned new teams until the Super Bowl ends.

Jacobs then took to Twitter again today saying:

“Don’t be alarmed this was the plan, in saying that I wanna thank them for the opportunity, I wish the team luck in the playoffs.”

Jacobs, 30, only played in two games this season finishing with five carries for seven yards. In eight NFL seasons, Jacobs has rushed for 4,856 yards and 56 touchdowns.

Being washed up and a loudmouth is a bad combination for an NFL player. I doubt any team will touch him with a 10 foot pole.
