The drama continues to unfold with the New York Jets.

The team announced Thursday morning that third-string quarterback Greg McElroy, who was slated to get his second career start on Dec. 30, is now out with concussion-like symptoms. Head coach Rex Ryan had to decide between starting Mark Sanchez, who is having the worst season of his career, or Tim Tebow.

Ryan has decided to give the nod to Sanchez, who will start at quarterback for the Jets’ final regular season game on Sunday in Buffalo against the Bills, the team that New York beat in Week 1 of the regular season.

Ryan found out about McElroy’s condition at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday after McElroy reported headaches while lifting weights, according to a report from New York Daily News Jets beat reporter, Manish Mehta:

“There’s no way I’m going to play him. There’s no doubt. I don’t care what the tests say. We‘re going to err on the side of caution. So he definitely will be out for the game.”

Ryan said he was “stunned” to find out about the concussion-like symptoms, adding that Tebow was not happy about his decision to start Sanchez:

“Mark has had success earlier in the season against Buffalo. He’s very familiar with them. That’s the reason I’m going with Mark. I had the conversation with both Mark and Tim…. about what I was going to do. Obviously, Tim’s not happy with that. That’s what you expect.”

Disgusting. The Jets fans deserve better than what Ryan has given them this season.

The only way Tebow is going to get a start for the Jets is if Sanchez somehow gets hurt in practice. Honestly, you have to be blind to see that Rex has danced around every chance to start Tebow. Honestly, you'd think the GM or owner would speak up by now assuming it was one of them who wanted Tim.

Not a tebow fan, but what the Jets did and are doing to tebow is wrong.  If they never were going to play him at QB, they should have never put him #2 on the depth chart.  Now they disrespect him by saying that he is not "familiar" with Buffalo as if tebow never prepared against any team the Jets played in case sanchez got hurt and tebow was put in.  Now they start sanchez the turnover machine despite his ineptitude over the past 2 years.

Its too late to save Rex, I love looking at mock drafts for 2013 and on one draft broad they have the Jets picking Matt Barkley another USC waste....nothing the Jets on their draft picks they will trade up to get him....The Jets could have all the drafts picks for 2013 and it wouldnt help until the get a real HC

Rex just proved the whole Tebow affair was nothing but headline grabbing by a team desperate to stay relevant in the shadow of the Giants. The thought that Tebow might go out and actually win a game would be embarrassing to the Jets front office. Jets fans (I'm not one or a Tebow fan for that matter) deserved better than this.

I hope both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow fail to show for Sunday's game.. Then what will you do Jets? Treat people like crap and it might come back to bite you in the but. Tim and Mark you are welcome in my house in Bonsall - in Sunny Southern California on Saturday, and Sunday you can do interview's with other teams as the Jets implode...  We can play the Bills vs. Jets on XBOX and start Rex Ryan at QB as he is the only one that will be left to play QB..I am glad to see there is a more disfunctional franchise than the Chargers.. Call me 1-800-NEED-AQB

This shouldn't surprise anyone who even remotely followed what Rex has been doing all year. He has absolutely no desire to play Tebow at all and if he did and Tebow wins.......Rex looks even worse. LJ is absolutely correct!

I think Rex is afraid that Tebow will actually play a great game and win it!

This is Rex's last major decision as head coach of the Jets. We'll see how it pans out.

Also, sanchez doesn't get hurt because he is more valuable to the other team playing.  And sanchez will cough up the ball or lie dead once a defender gets close enough.

@LJ I saw Rex last night in Tijuana at Caliente putting a $5 million dollar bet on the Bills
