Browns coach Pat Shurmur staunchly defended his decisions during the team’s 34-12 loss to the Broncos on Sunday, according to the News-Herald.

With his team down by 22 points with 1:55 to play in the fourth quarter, Shurmur had quarterback Colt McCoy loading up from the shotgun. He was sacked on first down. Then, at third-and-13 on a pass intended for Josh Cooper, McCoy fell on rookie running back Trent Richardson. Richardson had X-rays done and left the locker room wearing a walking boot.

In response to criticism during a news conference on Monday, Shurmur said:

“So you just run the ball and get out of there, warm up the buses? …. We’re trying to do what we can to move the football. At that time, it was a three-score game. So typically that means throw it.

Nobody wants to be hurt in a game like that. But I think it’s important to try to do what we have to do to win the game. What are we going to do, stop playing? You know what I’m saying? You could run the ball, but then your running backs get hurt as well.”

The Browns (5-10) are in last place in the AFC North. They will play the Steelers (7-8) in their final game of the season.

I love my Browns and I think that the fans praise Tom Heckert toooooo much,  one thing that drives me crazy about Heckert is that he doesn't draft the sure great athlete.  I bet if the team of Haslem and Banner keeps Heckert ,  say in the draft Manti Teo is available when the Browns pick, Heckert will trade down the pick to get a 2nd round pick (which they don't have because they drafted Gordon in the Supplemental draft) and select some unknown lineman that Heckert  thinks is a diamond in the ruff and Manti Teo will be drafted by some other team and  will be a beast and once again the Browns will be out of a great player;  so if Heckert is let go I wont be toooooooooooo upset and I bet that if rumors are true and Michael Lombardi comes to Cleveland, I bet if Manti Teo will be drafted by Lombardi because you have to draft the sure thing,  (top quality athletes) so your not so great players will become better because the unknown athlete will learn from the great athlete.

The complainers was probably from Browns fans.  If the Browns was in the Super Bowl and they were down  2 points, they need 3 to win and they kicked a field goal to win the Superbowl, the Browns fans would complain and say why didn't Shurmur go for the touchdown.  Browns fans need to stop being soooooooooooooo complaining about their team on the small stuff and then our chances on being in the playoffs and possibly a Superbowl appearance will come true faster.  Browns fans complain and give up on players too early (Brandon Weedon, the rookie) and yes I'm a Browns Fan.

Who is criticizing the coach for trying to win the game? As a Bronco's fan, I wish he would have packed it in earlier. What is the coach supposed to do? A true no win situation.

If he's being second guessed, its by people that have never competed for anything. Its easy to point fingers when somebody gets hurt, its not nearly as easy to put up and shut up. Are we seriously questioning a coach who has his QB in the shotgun...when they're down 3 scores? They were doing what they needed to do to try to get back in a game. Looks more like a media outlet looking for a story than anything else. and that's from a Steeler fan.

Browns fans complain to much? Have you even watched this team the last decade? I think Browns fans have every right to complain about the product that has been put out on the field. And yes I am a loyal Browns fan with season tickets.

@George Wait what?  If you mean literally, as in "he lost the game", then yes.  But if he just ran four plays into the back of his OLine, fans would be screaming.  At least he tried something aggressive.  People get hurt whether you run the ball or throw it.  And no, I'm not a Browns fan.
