Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer will not play in the season finale against the San Diego Chargers because of injuries to his ribs and lung, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday.

Allen said Palmer has cracked ribs and a bruised lung and will not play again this season for the 4-11 Raiders.  That means either Matt Leinart or Terrelle Pryor will get the start against the Chargers on Sunday.

Palmer was hurt in the first quarter of the Raiders’ 17-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers. In relief of Palmer, Leinart came in and completed 16 of 32 passes for 115 yards and an interception.

What an expensive bust. Raiders now don't have a number 1 and lost a number 2. Palmer is a great big #3

Matt Leinart, Terrelle Pryor. Good grief! Hey coach, how about giving me a shot? I'm 48, out of shape, overweight and I've never played a down of football in my life - but I swear to God; I could do a better job than those two. I'm not joking for one minute! How much longer does the RAIDER NATION have to suffer like this??????

That's a shame.  Carson has done good for the Raiders, especially considering what he's had to work with.  I don't think he's as good as he WAS, but is still the best QB the Raiders have seen since Gannon.  Not a Raiders fan AT ALL but I really hope he has success in Oakland.

Carson needs this like he needs a hole in the head.  Retire carson!  Oakland is a lost cause!

I put it at 50/50 that Carson retires from football before the 2013 season.

If anyone can make an intelligent case for why the Raiders will be any better in 2013 than they were in 2012, I would LOVE to know why.  Please reply with an intelligent case for improvement for the Raiders for 2013 if you can think of one.

Isn't "out for the season" and out for "Sunday's game" the same thing for a non playoff team for week 17?

Does it really matter if Carson plays?  The Raiders seem to suck no matter what.  Additionally, the coming season

for the Raiders holds little promise of things being any better for the Raiders.  Lousy DL, OL, WRs, RBs, TEs, secondary, and little to no depth at any position.  The Raiders were an abject failure for 2012 and will be for 2013 as well.

I think if they give Terrelle Pryer some touches he'll make things alot more exciting. Raiders may not win more but it cant hurt. The future of the team lies in its youth. Playing Palmer next year is kinda redundant.

@ChrisLindeman  The Raiders can give Pryor all the touches he may need.  I do not think that Pryor will EVER be a quality NFL QB.  Even if they do play him, why would that result in more wins than they are now getting with Palmer?  The WRs are (fast, but) not very good.  They don't catch well.  They don't fight for the ball very well vs. CBs.  Pretty much the entire Raider team is in disarray.  Playing Terrell Pryor will unlikely have any beneficial effect at all.  Is he similar to RG3?  No.  Is there anything Pryor can do that Palmer could not?  No.

Basically, the Raiders are a below average team that will be lucky to be 6-10 next year.  They have the type of team that can (and often does) lose every week, and to pretty much any and every team.
