New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow’s future has been talked about for the past week and it seems as though he may have a chance to kickstart his career again.

ESPN.com reports that it is “a virtual certainty” that Tebow will play in next season for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tebow, who is from the Jacksonville area, was traded to the Jets in March after leading the Denver Broncos to the playoffs but has gotten limited playing time this season.

Tebow still has two years remaining on his contract, but would only cost the Jets a little more than $1 million against the salary cap if he is cut.

The Jaguars offered a fourth-round pick to Denver in March and proposed to pay $3 million to the Broncos to compensate for money that had been advanced to Tebow.

“Sometimes, things just happen out of your control,” Tebow said earlier this week. “Obviously, you might not be pleased with them or happy about it, but you just try to handle it as best you can.”

This season, Tebow has played in 11 games, completing six of eight passes and has run the ball 32 times for 102 yards in only 72 offensive snaps. The Jaguars have Chad Henne and injured Blaine Gabbert on the roster at quarterback and at 2-12 is tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the league’s worst record.

I remember when Brett Favre was cut by the Falcons - we all know what happened there. I'm a Georgia fan, but I have a lot of respect for Tebow as a man and athlete. We need more guys like him in the NFL. Growing up, guys like Johnny Unitas, Jack Kemp, etc. were great role models. A number of today's stars are illiterate thugs. It goes beyond football - it's why we have a "gimme culture", and a country about to implode.

The circus has moved south.  Tebow has a shot at starting against henne & Gabbert, and if they go out and get a good running back in the draft, they could be half decent.

Does it really matter where Tebow goes? I don't see much chance of him making a real difference anywhere.  If he's happier there, great, but he doesn't seem to have what it takes to succeed in the NFL.

Yes 80% of 8 passes...small sample size mean anything to you, think he'd have 80% if he was throwing 20-30 times a game? Tebow isn't a NFL caliber QB doesn't have a very accurate arm and has many of the same flaws in his game as Vick, actually I'd take Vick over Tebow. Yes, Tebow led the Broncos to the playoffs (with an 8-8 record) due to the fact that the Broncos play in the awful AFC West where you can win the division at 8-8. At 8-8, the Broncos would have won the division this year too. The Broncos had an extremely easy schedule last season, of the 7 regular season games Tebow won (and many of these can be chalked up to the Denver Defense) not a single one of these teams made the playoffs. The two teams that did make the playoffs faced by Tebow blew the Broncos right out of the stadium. In addition, Tebow and the Broncos lost to the Chargers, the Bills and the Chiefs. The Broncos were completely destroyed by the Bills (and teams that won just 6 games) and Tebow could only generate 3 points against the lowly Chiefs. Yes, he did manage to beat the banged up Steelers on that long TD pass in OT only to again be crushed by the Pats.

Tebow is a nice guy, he just isn't a quality NFL QB and Jacksonville isn't going to win with him either. But since Jacksonville doesn't have any quality NFL QBs right now either and this year's draft is pretty bleak as quality QBs go and Tebow will fill seats from the Swamp Lizard fans, why not? However, if I had the choice to get Tebow from the Jets or Vick from the Eagles, I'd go with Vick. All in all Vick is the better of the two.

Tebow isn't a traditional QB in any sense of the position, but he is a high character winner. The Jets didn't use him right, or at all really. He needs a team with a good, confidant, traditional QB that isn't afraid to share plays, and a good OC that can use a QB like Tebow in in ways to capitalize on the abilities he does have, and ACTUALLY USE HIM! Not just like a wildcat QB,but in any situation, at any time. That forces the other team to prepare for 2 QBs and a playbook that is 2x as big. Jax ISN'T the right team tho...

Give the kid a chance to play.  If anything, he is exciting to watch.  He will never go into the NFL HOF, but neither do most players.  He will bring that franchise life for a year or two, or even longer if he continues to develop.  The Jets are a complete joke and wouldn't know what to do if they had Joe Montana or Tom Brady as QB.  They can't develop QB's.  just look at their history.  Give TT a chance to play, that all.  And the answers will be served ..

He is still under contract with the Jets, right? How is this not considered tampering and unethical (openly expressing an interest to play for another team)?

Read the article a little more closely--it sounds like you're just trying to manufacture some false indignation. Where is it listed that Tebow wants to play for Jacksonville? So, how is he expressing any interest in playing for them? This is a story--we don't even know if it's true, but if it is, reps from the Jets amd Jags have probably engaged in discussions of making a trade involving Tebow. Believe it or not, teams have to talk to each other before they can actually initiate trades. You'll have to do much better than that to tarnish Tebow's good name, but I'm sure that you'll keep trying.

A great fit for Tebow and the Jags. Rex and the defunct Dolphins old coach Tony S. did him and Sanchez wrong.

If this story is true, how is that not tampering?  Tebow is currently under contract to the Jets for two more years.   Yes, he PROBABLY will be released or traded after the season, but at this time, that has not happened.

@ChazzSteiner Please . . .it would only be tampering if the Jags had secretly bypassed the Jets and contacted Tebow directly! Assuming the story is true--a big assumption--reps of both the Jags and Jets have probably already discussed a trade. Has it ever occurred to you that teams actually have to communicate in advance before a trade can be initiated?

We are going to need a good song for this story!

I like Tebow aside from the religious nonsense. It's a shame he didn't get a chance with the jets.

Maybe the jags will treat him right if they don't get him killed from lack of protection.

There offense needs work but so does the D. If they draft well the addition of Tebow could make them a playoff contender. He found ways to win in Denver but he had help.

John81

@Tom L The 'religious nonsense' is part of Tebow, and I doubt if he asked anyones permission to express  his faith. We do still havve freedom of religion don't we? Maybe some peeps don't like your expession of your opinion on Tebow's' religious nonsense'. So freekin what?

@Tom L - the difference in protection for tebow would be the type of offense necessary for what he does best - drop back pro style passers need protection from their offensive line to be effective; all the lineman block defnsive players to keep them away from the QB; they "defend" against the defense getting to QB - quarterbacks in an option style offense dont need that kind of protection - they are attacking the defense, creating lanes for the back and QB to run thru - sprinting out to make the defense come up and cover the run, or stay back and cover the receiver - thats what tebow is good at - if anyone thinks tebow will be a great drop back, pro style QB they are in for a disappointment - if the team he plays for will run an offense in a manner that takes advantage of his strenths, he could be pretty good - you often hear, and see, the offensive line likes this style of active offense attacking the defense - equate it to hitting someone, instead of getting hit - tebow is a florida orange and you cant expect him to become apple juice - play him for more than 5 plays a game in an offense suited for him and you might end up with a nice glass of orange juice

I'm in no way a Tebow nut - but

Broncos proved last year

if you go "all - in" with Tebow, have a solid defense

and tweak the offense to Tebow's strengths  (read option)

you can win games, pack the stands

and sell a $#^tload.of  #15 jerseys.

How many games has Jacksonville won this year?

What is the average attendance at Jacksonville this year?

How are the jets doing so far?

This is a no-brainer - at least for a couple of seasons.

If Tebow EVER learns how to read defenses, check down his priorities

and throw a football

the AFC South will have 3 good teams with 3 good quarterbacks.all competing for the playoffs.

Laugh if you like

but in the end, the joke is on the rex and the Jets.

I agree with the comments below, "if I were the Broncos, I would have kept Tebow``.... anyone know if the Broncos made the offer to Tebow when they brought Manning in?  Any chance, now that Manning has shown he is still a superstar, whether the Broncos might be interested in bringing Tim back?  What better fit? And Tim would learn how to throw from one of the greatest.

So Tebow will be buried on a probable 2-14 team next year, which will be 1-15 with him, and nobody outside of Florida will have to hear about him again.  There truly is a God!

Bring him to New England!!! Brady has only gotten us to 5 Super Bowls in 11 years and only ONE in the past 10 months!! We need a QB that can win.

Good for Tebow providing the Jaguars have a coach who isn't as clueless as Ryan. However, rumors are just that until they become reality, so let's wait and see what happens. If it is true, I'm hoping that Ryan is still around when the Jets next play the Jaguars--I'd love to see the expression on that windbag's face when Tebow goes 2-0 against him and that inept Jets' organization.

@pljaye I don't see the Jags holding opponents to 10 pts each game in order to set Tebow up with a potential game winning drive. However, the Jets do fit that description...

If you bothered to check your records you'd have seen when Tebow was with Denver their GREAT defense was ranked 24th against scoring and 20th over all. Minnesota scored 32 and Oakland 24 and Tebow still led them to victories. GREAT defense  .where ? Please look at the actual records and stats.

pljaye
pljaye

You're absolutely correct, JohnDillane. Denver's "great" defense also gave up 40 or more points an NFL-leading FIVE times last year. That includes the playoff loss to the Pats when they couldn't stop Brady, Even in the playoff win against Pittsburgh, the defense gave up a 14-point lead in the second half and almost cost the Broncos the game, until Tebow's 80-yard TD pass won the shortest overtime playoff game in NFL history.

It's too bad, but the haters like keithb will just continue to hate no matter how well Tebow perforns. In fact, of all the Tebow-related posts that I've read, I've NEVER read one which accurately acknowledged that Tebow has a higher career passer rating than Sanchez--you would have incorrectly thought that Sanchez had a far better rating and was a superior passer if you based your opinion on most of the ignorant posts that Tebow's detractors spew on the Internet..

If I were the Broncos, I would have kept Tebow. They could still sign Manning plus they have a backup. i think now that Tebow should go to either Jacksonville or Minnesota.

George

@S712399   Tebow requires an offense that is the exact opposite of what Manning runs.

Broncos did the right thing, and eventually Tebow will land somewhere that the coach actually has enough BRAINS to give him a legitimate shot.   rex ryan is a toejam-snorting idiot.

Minnesota would be very interesting. A backfield with Peterson and Tebow might average 200 yards of rushing a game--perfect for the black-and-blue division.

I think that would be a good fit for Tebow. I also think the Jaguars would appreciate him far more than the Jets did.
