The father of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III told USA Today that his son will start on Sunday against the Browns despite a sprained right knee.

Griffin injured the knee in the fourth quarter of this past Sunday’s overtime win over the Ravens, which brought Washington’s record to 7-6, one game behind both the NFC East-leading Giants and the wild card leaders.

The team has diagnosed the injury as a Grade 1, mild sprain, but coach Mike Shanahan has yet to reveal publicly whether Griffin or rookie backup Kirk Cousins will start on Sunday.

But Robert Griffin II says his son has already informed him that his condition has improved enough for him to be ready.

“He’s doing great,” Robert Griffin II told USA TODAY Sports. “He definitely said he plans to start. I haven’t seen him (the last two days). But he told me (today) everything has gone well.”

After some mild swelling, the knee has responded.

“He’s doing rehabilitation as far as the impact pain working with that,” Griffin’s dad said. “Monday he said he felt really good. Today he felt better. Every day he’s getting better. Monday he had no problems and throughout the workout, he had no problems.”

Griffin III, the second overall pick in the 2012 draft, leads the NFL with a 104.2 passer rating, including 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions. The Redskins have won four straight games to position themselves for their first playoff berth since 2007.

NY Giants fan here. Griffin is as much fun to watch as anyone in the league. Exciting player, top shelf ability. Nightmare for opposing defenses. Still not sure how you keep a "full throttle" guy like him healthy.

I hope he does start. The sooner this clown is knocked out of the league the happier i will be for not reading any more stories about this 'overhyped' player that hasn't even done enough to get his team above .500!!!! Kirk Cousins won 2 games for him in clutch performances too!! At least Luck fights his own battles and is 9-4 to show for it. Luck has rookie of the year wrapped up at this point!

Hahaha dude shut up. Kirk won one game for us at the end, after Griffin set him up for the win. He did not win 2 games. The other game he played, the Skins lost by a TD to ATL. Griffin is one of the priemer players in the league right now. You must not watch very many Redskins games. His accuracy is insane. His poise and scrammbling ability is insane. His deep ball is insane. And it just so happens the rest of the team is rallying behind him and playing very well. This season is a massive positive turnaround for the 'Skins compared to years past and it's all thanks to RG3 and Alfred Morris. Luck is good, but a totally different style of football player.  HTTR

destrusdominate Wow... just wow.  Hate much?  "At least Luck fights is own battles..." ??? Really dude?  Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but yours is about as shallow and uninformed as they come.

destrusdominate What?  Of course Luck is doing better in that worse division.  Did you see the teams the Colts played vs the teams the Skins played?  Stats aren't everything but check their stats out also.  Luck can only pass.  RG3 is contributing in many areas of the game when it comes to confusing the opponents' defenses.  Luck is good but RG3 is better.

I agree the the colts have played a weaker sced then the skins, but the Redskins were a better team then the Colts were last year. The skins have a better O-line a better Def...WR/TE are about equal. so i think both QB should get probs they are both having great years.

destrusdominate If griffin put up lucks numbers the redskins would have 3 wins.  Do you see what i did there, made a comment based on nothing... and i gotta say, I see why you like it.

I think RGIII is having a great season and this is coming from a Colts fan..but if RGIII had to throw as much as Luck has to he would have alot worse numbers. he had a great running came which always helps. I hope the Colts can get there O-line figured out next year

destrusdominate You must have math problems. Six and five is the Skins record.

Please be sure that your knee is ok.  You know the opponet will be going after you to hurt you.  A a Skins die hard fan,  I want you at 100%.  I have been a skins fan for 50 years and you are the best thing that has happened in DC.

Grandma If trading away 4 years of 1st round draft picks for a overhyped, often injured player is the best thing to happen to D.C. in 50 years, then you need to move!

Um they actually traded 2 future 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick. Not 4 1st round picks. Your arguments are invalid because your facts are way off.

destrusdominate  Grandma Oft injured?  The concussion was on a dirty hit and the knee can happen to anyone.  Add to that the fact that the man is among the top 5 QBs in many categories.  Overhype?  Ok, maybe a tad.. but not as much as you say.
