Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent is “devastated” at the death of former teammate Jerry Brown and wants to attend his memorial service, ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

Brent is accused of driving drunk and crashing the car that killed Brown over the weekend. Brown was released on $500,000 bond from an Irving, Texas, jail on Sunday.

A Cowboys spokesman told Schefter that the team will hold a private memorial for Brown on Tuesday. Schefter reported that Brent is not sure if he will attend because he “wants to be respectful.” Upon leaving jail Sunday night, Brent answered only one question thrown his way.

“Jerry Brown was my very best friend, and I’m just trying to deal with his death right now,” he told reporters.

“He is torn up,” said George Milner, Brown’s agent. “It’s not a good moment for anyone. I’m going to take him home. He needs family around him.”

"Brown was released on $500,000 bond from an Irving, Texas, jail on Sunday."  How could Brown be released from jail when he is dead?  wake up stupid SI editors!
