Injured South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore wil declare for the 2013 NFL Draft, according to a report from Joe Schad of ESPN.com.
Currently a junior, Lattimore is recovering from his second major knee injury in as many seasons. The running back enjoyed a stellar freshman season for the Gamecocks in 2010, but his 2011 season was cut short after tearing a knee ligament at the beginning of October. Lattimore made a full recovery and proceeded to have a solid 2012 until dislocating his knee against Tennessee on October 27.
Lattimore will likely have to miss a full season of NFL play if he is drafted this season.
According to Schad, Lattimore sought out the advice of the San Francisco Giants’ Frank Gore and the Denver Broncos’ Willis McGahee, both of whom recovered from devastating injuries to become productive running backs in the NFL. An official announcement on Lattimore’s decision to forego his final season of eligibility could come on Wednesday.
