Dolphins left tackle Jake Long placed on injured reserve

The Miami Dolphins placed Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.
Long injured his left triceps muscle in the Dolphins’ 23-16 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. Last December, he missed the final weeks of the season when tore his biceps.
Long is making $11.2 million this season in the final year of a five-year, $50 million contract he signed after being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Miami can use the franchise tag on him for next season, allowing him to make $15.4 million.

Long has caught the injury bug the past few years but he's still a key building block for the franchise. Receivers are almost nothing without a QB, QBs are nothing without pass protection, and pass protection is nothing without a good LT. If the Fins are serious about putting Tannehill in a successful position, they'll resign Long.
